Questions and Answers
What 3 words best describe your work?
Dramatic. Natural. Candid.
Tell us about your company name.
I chose to stay simple for my couples to find me by name. And I'm French, which is pretty obvious with the spelling of my name.
Why should someone hire you?
If a couple is looking for a photographer who is laid-back, easygoing but professional, with a weird accent, and who brings more than basic photography skills, then we might be a good match! Wedding photography is not just about snapping great memories; it's also about making a day smoother and more fun for everyone.
What are the common misconceptions about your services?
That the majority of a wedding photographer's work lies in traveling to cool places and pushing a button to capture the moment. Yes, I get to visit some of the most beautiful places in the world because my couples choose amazing venues and engagement shoot locations, but there is a TON of behind-the-scenes work before I even meet them. Also, after the big day is behind them, I have intense days of editing and perfecting the final package that I deliver. In fact, I would say that I spend about 3/4 of my work time behind a computer! That's surprising to most people given the beautiful shots I show on social media :)
What drew you to this field/how did you get started?
LOVE. EMOTION. FEELINGS. These were what made me fall in love with this work. And what made me leave my previous career path after 10 years in the corporate finance world. Every weekend is a fresh opportunity to meet new people, and help capture the memories for one of the most important days in a new family. I thrive on the emotions, connections, and love that I see all the time. It's magic!
What are some sources of inspiration or influences on your work?
Traveling is a huge part of my life and continues to inspire me for the beautiful places and cultural differences I get to discover. Music is also a big thing for my personal creativity, and I'm constantly listening to music while I edit or before showing up to a session or wedding day.
Tell us about a favorite, unusual or very interesting moment at a wedding:
It was during a wedding in the mystical redwoods of the Northern California coast. After the ceremony in the woods, all the guests embraced each other in a giant, natural, and touching hug. I've rarely felt so much love and the connection between everybody present.
What makes a wedding memorable for you?
If the couple can truly ENJOY the fun and excitement of their day together with loved ones without getting bogged down or overwhelmed by the logistics or organization. Wedding planners (and quality vendors) can really help alleviate some of that stress!
What have weddings taught you?
To do better the next day. Always.
What is the best advice you give a couple when planning their wedding?
To listen to each other and their inner voice to do what they want; not what they or anyone else think they SHOULD do. Also, keep it simple, fun and meaningful to you.
If you could have any superpower on the job, what would it be?
The same superpower I would love to have in life: teleportation.
What are 3 words that describe your personality?
Curious. Enthusiastic. Adventurous.
What's your favorite book/movie/work of art?
Wes Anderson movies. His sense of composition, color and light really speak to me! Plus they've got a weird and quirky sense of humor - like me!
What's your favorite quote?
Not so much a quote by a motto that I live by: Carpe Diem.
What's your favorite marriage advice?
Always communicate; for better or for worse.
Traveling. Everywhere. As much as I can, as often as I can. I actually have a van to fulfill this passion of mine.
If you weren't in your current profession, what would you do instead?
I would probably open a B&B in the country.
What's your favorite way to wind down after a hard day?
A glass of wine and a quality conversation with my beautiful wife.
Tell us about your pets, if you have any.
My landlord doesn't allow any right now, but I grew up all my life with dogs, especially my beloved black lab called Morgan. She was the sweetest.
What are some of your favorite places to eat—either everyday spots or special occasion splurges?
Well, no specific restaurants, but my favorite foods include Italian food, cheese, wine, bread, Mexican, French food of course (I'm French), Mediterranean...yeah, I just LOVE food.
