Why You'll Love This Place
A Here Comes The Guide Wedding Venue Review
In 1927, Joe and Antoinette Ghiringhelli held their wedding-night dinner at a restaurant tucked into the hills of Fairfax. Charmed by the special property—originally opened in 1916 as a lodge—the young newlyweds made a promise to each other that one day they would own it. In 1937 their dream became a reality. To celebrate, Joe planted a grove of redwood trees, which have since grown into an "Enchanted Forest" of towering giants that have sheltered hundreds of couples as they exchange wedding vows.
The bride's day begins in the adorable Bridal Suite, which once served as the Villa's carriage house. There's a full bathroom, cedar closet, and lots of windows—all accented by vintage furnishings, art, and décor. If you opt to take photos around the grounds before the festivities begin, your photographer will surely thank you—the light here is lovely at any time of day, and you're likely to capture some shots of the Villa's namesake deer, who are frequent (and welcome!) visitors.
As guests begin to arrive, they'll be guided by attendants down a shady gravel path to a parking area surrounded by trees and picturesque outbuildings. From there, they'll make their way toward the heart of the property where the Enchanted Forest stands.
The trees form a large circle, becoming a natural cathedral that feels both sacred and celebratory. You can say "I do" beneath an arbor or chuppah, or let the beauty of the redwoods serve as your altar. After the ceremony, the grove will be set for dinner so you and your guests can continue to enjoy the setting. It's especially pretty as night falls, when market lights, high in the boughs, form a softly glowing canopy.
During the cocktail hour, guests mingle at the outside bar, which overlooks a sweet, handmade stone water feature depicting a fairytale bridge and turret. The bar is backed by a series of shelves just begging to be personalized—couples have decorated them with family photos, candles, and lighted marquee signs. Guests can also play bocce ball, roast s'mores around fire pits, or retreat to the Zen Grove, a peaceful spot with a circular flowerbed at its center that can be set with chairs, tables, or lounge furniture.
After dinner, the party moves to the Dance Hall. This large room occupies a section of Deer Park’s historic restaurant, named “Bootlegger’s Lodge” in a colorful nod to the Prohibition Era. 1920s-inspired art and tchotchkes line the walls, and wrought-iron lamps and sconces cast just the right amount of light on the hardwood dance floor. The Dance Hall also houses The Lodge Bar, which stays open late so you and your guests can wind down the evening without feeling rushed.
The venue celebrated its centennial anniversary in 2016, and is lovingly run by a third generation of the Ghiringhelli family. When couples wed at Deer Park Villa, they become part of its enduring romantic story.
