Why You'll Love This Place

A Here Comes The Guide Wedding Venue Review

What is it that draws us to vintage houses? Maybe it’s their grace and elegance, which reminds us of a bygone era when artisans had pride in their work and people took their time. One such place is the Historic Lindley-Scott House and Gardens, a serene private estate in the San Gabriel foothills.

The Georgian-style home was built in 1911 by famed architect Robert D. Farquhar, and it’s sheltered from the outside world by tall trees, green hedgerows and wrought-iron gates. A curving driveway climbs to the stately two-story home, painted a cheery yellow with green shutters and white trim. A garden setting surrounds the house, featuring a wide expanse of lawn with a majestic cypress, a California live oak and other lush foliage.

In keeping with the home’s nostalgic feeling, some brides make their grand entrance in a horsedrawn carriage or an antique auto. But most often the bride and her attendants prepare upstairs in the Victorian-style dressing room. From here she descends the classic staircase in the Lindley-Scott foyer, then steps outside and follows a walkway between the trees to meet her groom at a storybook staging area—an arched arbor bordered by a pair of white picket fences with potted plants and flowers. Another romantic site for saying “I do” is near the Carriage House—it’s a secluded white gazebo standing on a carpet of manicured grass ringed with hedges and trees.

After vows are exchanged, the bridal party makes use of the picturesque grounds for photos. One of the most photogenic spots is the Rose Garden, filled with fragrant blooms that serve as a natural—and colorful—backdrop. Guests enjoy coming here, too: There’s a lawn bordered by Jacaranda trees where they can mingle…or simply stop to smell the roses!

Receptions take place in the magnificent Carriage House. Its white-columned portico welcomes family and friends into an elegant ballroom, where vintage-style chandeliers suspended from the lofty ceiling illuminate the dining and dancing. An abundance of natural light flows in through a wall of windows and French doors, which open to a cozy patio overlooking the beautifully landscaped grounds.

In contrast to events at many private estates, a celebration at The Historic Lindley-Scott House and Gardens is “one-stop shopping”: Everything you’ll need for a stylish reception is included in your wedding package, like a choice of wedding cakes and linen colors—even a keyboardist! All you’ll have to do is thank your guests for coming and receive their enthusiastic compliments.
