Questions and Answers

Why should someone hire you?
I am essentially your wedding "insurance." I ensure that the ideal team of vendors is assembled, the details are attended to, and the timeline runs smoothly so that the couple is able to enjoy a stress-free day of celebrating with their family and friends.
What are the common misconceptions about your services?
A true understanding of the number of hours it takes to effectively plan and detail an event. Most people do not realize that selecting the location and the vendors is only a very small portion of the decisions that need to be made.
What drew you to this field/how did you get started?
I grew up in a very big family and my parents often had large dinner parties which I loved helping them plan. In college I majored in Hotel Management and after graduating I started working in hotels. I worked as the Director of Catering at both the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills and The Beverly Hills Hotel, and with this background decided to become involved in private event planning.
What are some sources of inspiration or influences on your work?
The inspiration comes from the couple, what is unique to them, their families, or their culture. It's important to really get to know whom you are working with so you understand what their vision is and how you can turn it into a reality. The most rewarding thing to hear is that you understood exactly what was envisioned, even though, at times, it was hard to describe.
Tell us about a favorite, unusual or most interesting moment at a wedding:
There was a wedding once where the flower girl was very young. She was pushing a small carriage filled with flower petals down the aisle, but stopped halfway and refused to go any further. Without any prompting, the ring bearer marched back down the aisle, and escorted the carriage and the flower girl to the ceremony platform as the guests all applauded.
What makes a wedding memorable for you?
The greatest thing about what I do is that no day is the same. Every wedding is unique and the personal touches that each bride and groom bring to the day is what makes it so memorable. A wedding should be a reflection of who the couple are and the life they are about to begin together, and being amongst their friends and family as that moment happens is incredibly rewarding.
What have weddings taught you?
Be flexible and be adaptable. The best-laid plans can often be affected by an unexpected glitch such as a toast going too long or a delay in a course being served. Knowledge of how to adjust the timeline to get the event back on track so it runs seamlessly is of utmost importance.
What is the best advice you give to a couple when planning their wedding?
Do your research and hire an event planner you connect with, who you will enjoy working with, and who understands your vision. Then enjoy the process of planning the most memorable day of your life!
If you could have any superpower on the job, what would it be?
I would love to be able to clear each guest's mind of any other distraction from the moment they step into a wedding to the moment they leave. At such an emotional and celebratory occasion, it is incredibly rewarding to see people that know how to fully enjoy every minute of it.

About This Company

They’re often referred to as the platinum standard of the event-planning world, which is why you’ll want to consider International Event Company (IEC) when contemplating your next big celebration. Founder Jonathan Reeves has been called one of the most “refined” people in the business, a “major player” and “an icon” who is “as courteous as they come.” Colleagues call his staff “remarkable” and clients clearly love them.

For Jonathan, who’s been captivated by events since the age of seven when he started to take a hand in his parents’ many parties, it’s a matter of heart. His business degree and subsequent success as Director of Catering at the Four Seasons Los Angeles and Director of Catering and Conference Services at the Beverly Hills Hotel came naturally, as do the exquisite affairs that he and his IEC team produce without fail. “We are all personally vested in perfection,” explains this highly regarded professional. “We want every event to be a little slice of heaven.” According to everyone who’s worked with them, they achieve this. “Jonathan’s company is fantastic,” reports one of their many industry fans. “I don’t know of anyone who isn’t thrilled with their work.”

No detail is too insignificant to escape their attention. And no once-in-a-lifetime event, in which extraordinary creativity and flawless execution are important, is too small. This is an organization that has done everything, from carting in 60 chandeliers for a destination wedding for 600+ and carpeting an entire ballroom and foyer in white for a Grace Kelly-style affair to orchestrating a single unforgettable evening for a wedding party of four. “I truly believe IEC provides the best,” declares a bride whose event was recently featured in Inside Weddings. “They have impeccable taste, and their calm yet enthusiastic personalities make the entire process fun and stress free.”

This combination of taste and service has made IEC the planning company of choice for even the most selective party hosts, and, despite their exalted reputation, they haven’t lost their humility. Jonathan is still present at each event, making sure it unfolds with total grace and precision. He says the key to it all is that he and his associates take great joy in what they do. “At IEC we want to put a smile on everyone’s face.”

To this team, accolades from clients are the greatest reward, so the last word has to come from the couples that hire them. Consider this comment from one of IEC’s very satisfied brides: “Jonathan and his staff are consummate professionals. I’m a perfectionist and a control freak, but I never worry that Jonathan is going to overlook something. In fact, my husband and I have discussed how we would like Jonathan to come and run our lives.”
