The Presidio is a genuine local treasure. A national park with a proud legacy as a premier military base, it also boasts an iconic San Francisco Bay view that includes the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz. Architecturally significant buildings have been lovingly restored and are arrayed among 1,491 acres, where gardens, forests, and wildlife flourish. Naturally, such a spectacular setting is perfect for memorable weddings, and this National Historic Landmark District has plenty of scenic venues to choose from.
For a romantic ceremony, many couples are drawn to the park's two historic chapels. The stately Spanish Mission-style Presidio Chapel rests on a forested hillside overlooking the bay. Photo ops abound out on the tiled garden patio, and the resplendent vaulted redwood sanctuary is lined with 12 arched, stained-glass windows. In contrast, the quaint Chapel of Our Lady is a simple, white wood-frame structure with a stunning surprise: Two of its walls are constructed entirely of multicolored glass block panels. Behind the altar, a massive floor-to-ceiling window frames lush greenery and towering eucalyptus, an inspirational backdrop for saying your vows. At both chapels, you're welcome to use your own officiant, musicians, and cultural style.
A scenic stroll from either venue takes you to the Golden Gate Club, nestled among groves of cypress and pine. This 1940s-era paragon of Mission design has plenty of period details to give your gala real character. Receptions are dazzling in the Ventana Room, whose curving two-story window wall hugs a green meadow edged with trees, while the bay shimmers in the distance. The lofty cathedral ceiling and large fireplace, combined with the natural environment just outside, impart a sense of serenity.
But there's a rival for your reception dreams—the prestigious Presidio Officers' Club. Formerly reserved for army brass, this gracious Mission Revival-style building now hosts civilian celebrations. The handsome Moraga Hall, with its upscale furnishings and vintage fireplace, makes a sleek prefunction gathering spot. The main attraction, however, is on the upper floor: the comfortably appointed View Terrace, which captures the Presidio's sweeping bay vista. Inside the adjoining Ortega Ballroom, floor-to-ceiling windows and an L-shaped balcony merge your fête with that phenomenal view.
For a wedding with country flair, the unique Log Cabin can't be beat. Built in 1937, this former non-commissioned officers' club resembles a grand hunting lodge with a fieldstone foundation and log-lined walls. The expansive front lawn is ideal for open-air ceremonies with a lovely view of the San Francisco skyline and peeks of the blue Pacific through the surrounding woods. Inside, you can't help but admire the cabin's handcrafted appeal: A soaring ceiling is supported by beams and columns made of polished tree trunks, and giant wagon wheel chandeliers illuminate a spacious dance floor. Put candles everywhere and crank up the huge gas fireplace, and your reception will glow with rustic elegance.
The park has so many options that you'll be grateful for the guidance of Presidio Event Venues' caring professionals, as well as their exceptional in-house catering. Couples can also enjoy an abundance of activities and amenities before and after their big day, including a charming historic inn, golf course, spa, award-winning restaurants, and a trampoline gym and rock-climbing facility to name a few.
If you're planning to leave your heart in San Francisco, there really is no better place than the Presidio for a destination wedding in The City.
