Why We Like This Place
Tucked away next to Lake Gregory and its cool green cedar and pine forest is San Moritz Lodge, a grand chalet whose alpine setting adds a fairytale quality to weddings and other special events. A 30-minute trip up Rim of the World Drive—one of the most scenic roads in the United States—takes you here, and if you arrive in the summer you’ll enjoy temperatures up to 30 degrees cooler than in the Inland Empire.
Ceremonies at San Moritz are often held on the Ceremony Lawn in front of the Lodge. The slightly sloping lawn faces Lake Gregory and is edged by tall conifers, including a perfectly formed cedar that soars 125 feet.
Indoors, there are two ceremony/reception sites. The Lakeview Room truly feels like a mountain lodge, with its 35-foot-high cathedral ceiling and flagstone-faced fireplace. 15-foot high windows running along the patio side afford an expansive outdoor view. The cozier Fireside Room has a bar, dance floor, and, of course, a fireplace. For a small fee, the San Moritz staff will set up and maintain a fire during your festivities. If desired, the Lakeview and Fireside Rooms may be combined for large weddings and events.
The shaded patio area outside the Lakeview Room is popular for pre- or post-ceremony cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. As guests mingle beneath the broad wooden colonnade, they can breathe in the fresh air and appreciate their beautiful surroundings.
Although San Moritz Lodge is located on the grounds of a public park, it’s isolated enough to give you privacy for your event and guests. The Lodge is lovely as is, but if you feel like adding your own decoration you’re free to use your creativity. And if you’d like some planning assistance, San Moritz will provide you with a list of approved vendors—including caterers, bakers and florists—who know the facility and have plenty of experience here. One more thing: On the day of your wedding, a Lodge staff person will be on site to help you with any facility needs.
There is nothing quite as romantic and picturesque as a panoramic view of the mountains and a forest of tall trees around a sparkling mountain lake. When you get married at San Moritz Lodge, you can seal your vows with a kiss in the midst of nature’s wonderland.
