Why We Like This Place
Just 45 minutes north of the Golden Gate Bridge in the heart of Sonoma Valley, B.R. Cohn Winery offers a multitude of possibilities in a romantic Wine Country atmosphere. Olive trees, whose graceful branches shade the road leading up to the winery, are a fitting introduction to this pastoral location.
From the top of the hill, it’s a short walk down to the outdoor Amphitheater, a spectacular ceremony site with a large stage and terraced lawn. Couples exchange vows on the stage beneath an enormous oak tree. Behind them is a stunning natural backdrop: acres of lush Cabernet vineyards and a full view of the Sonoma Mountains. Guests seated on the stage or lawn have the perfect vantage from which to enjoy the lovely panorama.
Nearby is another gorgeous venue to tie the knot: Oak Hill. Set in the middle of a vineyard, this rustic spot is shaded by 300-year-old oaks and manzanita trees and so private that all you hear is the occasional chirping of birds. Guests have a 360-degree view of the surrounding grapevines, and on hot days a soft breeze keeps them comfortable. Nature provides ample “decoration” so you don’t need to add anything—except perhaps some rose petals for the aisle.
A third choice is the Poolside Arbor. Ideal for smaller ceremonies and cocktail receptions, it features landscaped gardens and fruit trees and has a view of the olive grove, vineyards and mountains in the distance.
When it’s time to dine, most couples invite their guests to the Olive Grove for an al fresco celebration. This expansive lawn is shaded by more than a dozen 140-year-old French Picholine olive trees. Flowers make a colorful border, while tiny lights woven throughout every other tree create nighttime sparkle. Although this grove is usually used for receptions, it’s equally beautiful for ceremonies.
A new indoor ceremony/reception option, due to be completed in 2013, is the Barrel Room. Lined with wooden wine casks, it will provide a cool alternative during those hot summer months, and a wonderful venue in winter, too. The aroma of aging wine, soft lighting and flickering candles will make dinners here both fragrant and romantic.
In addition to its numerous event spaces, B.R. Cohn provides a charming cottage for the bride, her entourage and her family. Outfitted with an antique vanity, full-length mirror and couches, it’s a cozy place to primp and relax.
Nestled between the Mayacamas and Sonoma Mountains, B.R. Cohn Winery’s 90 acres possess a wealth of beauty, tranquility and options. Add to that fine wines and a friendly, experienced event coordinator and you have everything you need for an outstanding event.
