When it comes to shooting weddings, photographer Zen Todd has a style like that of a seasoned movie producer. He prepares in advance, scoping out each site to get familiar with the layout. On the big day, he strategically puts himself and his lead photographers in place for each important picture. Using discreet headsets, they all stay in touch as Zen’s business partner and wife, Lenore, orchestrates the flow of photo opportunities through constant communication. The upshot is simple: Zen Todd Photography’s streamlined method leaves little to chance, enabling them to capture the best moments at an event in sharp, artistic images.
Given Zen Todd’s cinematic leanings, it may come as little surprise that he spent many years as an actor in movies and television. With parts on ER and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, he became intimate with the pressure of being constantly “on the spot.” This translates well to the world of special event photography, since must-have shots happen in the blink of an eye and emotions often run high. Zen remains cool in these situations, and it’s his unflappable nature that earned him his nickname, Zen, which he now uses professionally. “What sets Zen apart is his laid-back, yet professional approach,” says a satisfied groom. “This allows the client to be more at ease, not to freak out on the wedding day, which has the potential to be a nerve-wracking time.”
In addition to staying centered, Zen and his staff of photographers craft timeless, couture-inspired pictures that wow their clients. There’s a sharpness to the images that makes them memorable: a bride cups a flower girl’s face, both of them drenched in light; the father of the bride slips a beaded shoe onto his daughter’s foot, his black tux a study in contrast against her gown. These moments may happen at nearly every marriage, but Zen Todd and his photographers breathe new life into them. “We really liked their style, the simplicity of it,” says a married couple who used Zen and his associates. “Their good, clean photos captured our emotions and chronicled our day perfectly.”

He purposely books no more than 36 weddings per year (three per month) so that he and his staff can dedicate themselves completely to you and your celebration; he gets to every event early and stays relaxed so that brides won’t feel hurried. Zen also provides a complimentary engagement session for each wedding. He believes that images improve when people become better acquainted. “During our engagement shoot and on the big day, Zen captured who we are with such artistry,” says a bride. “Each of his prints tells a story.
