Background
Satura Cakes was founded by Hironobu Tamaki, a Japanese entrepreneur and cake lover who found himself working in Silicon Valley in the 1990s and dearly missing Japanese-style cakes. With guidance and recipes from Masahito Motohashi, one of the top pastry chefs in Japan, Hiro eventually created Satura Cakes.
Just what distinguishes Japanese-style baking? One of the wedding professionals we talked to explained, “Their attention to detail is meticulous. They also have a wonderful variety to their cakes; they aren’t like most American cakes you can find. They’re lighter than most and still very flavorful; I think that says a lot about the quality of their ingredients.” The Japanese style also tends to be lightly sweet.
Services
Along with several absolutely imperative variations on chocolate and cakes filled with fresh fruit, Satura’s signature flavors include Strawberry Shortcake, Mango-Passion Fruit, and Green Tea Cake with Vanilla Cream.
Since many aficionados know Satura best as a place for pastry, coffee and other treats, it is no surprise that in addition to wedding cakes, Satura also produces special event dessert bars—with petit fours, mini green-tea cream puffs, and strawberry shortcake bites among the many possibilities.
