About This Company
What do you get when two brilliant young photojournalists team up and decide to focus their considerable talents on weddings? You get a combined twenty years of professional experience, the spark of artistic collaboration and a visual record of your special day that will render it unforgettable.
Diana Mulvihill and Vasna Wilson, the team behind Dream Studios, met in 1996 at the University of Missouri, which boasts the top-ranked photojournalism school in the country. The creative connection, they claim, was immediate. “I saw at once that Vasna is someone whose work is outstanding,” recollects Diana. “It has such intimacy. She really connects with her subjects.” Vasna was also quite captivated with Diana’s images. “Her work stands out because of her ability to tell a story,” says Vasna. “Diana has incredible technical expertise. I love her use of light and composition, the way she captures a moment.”
Both graduated and went on to forge successful careers as photojournalists for award-winning newspapers. And they kept in touch, eventually launching Dream Studios together. “Our personalities, style and work ethic are complementary,” explains Diana. “The most important aspect of photojournalism is empathy and compassion,” adds Vasna, who also teaches on the topic at California State University’s East Bay campus. “For us it is all about that.”
Between them they have photographed everything from hurricanes to car crashes to enormous forest fires. In the process both have become adept at capturing a mood, at telling a story in pictures. Of course their newspaper assignments weren’t all trauma and drama. They also each did their share of editorial work, chronicling P.R. functions, galas, corporate events, and what both liked best were the weddings. “After so many years, we are really comfortable with our equipment,” says Diana, whose retouching and color enhancing talents are much praised by brides. “We’re at ease in just about any situation. We can become the couple’s eyes and ears, seeing what they might be missing—the groom with his groomsmen, the bride getting ready—with our photographs it’s like they can see through walls!”
Longtime associates admire their tenacity and professionalism. Wedding vendors and guests applaud their artistry, service and winning personalities. But perhaps the most satisfying accolades come from the brides. “Our photos came out better than I ever dreamed they would,” exclaims a recently married client. “They totally documented every aspect of the wedding, catching things I never saw, while paying attention to details and including everyone who needed to be in the pictures.”
“We were thrilled with our pictures,” exclaims another. “And we aren’t an easy lot to impress. I was a photojournalist, my father-in-law a news producer for the biggest TV station in Italy (as well as an amateur photographer), and there were several amateur photographers among the guests. We loved the photos. Our friends and family raved that they were some of the best they’d ever seen.”
