“You can’t just leave it to Mother Nature,” says Heather Wieber of Cupid’s Arrow Wedding and Event Floral Studio. “Sometimes you have to give her a helping hand.” The gorgeous arrangements for which Cupid’s Arrow is very well known certainly illustrate that point. Heather is an expert on helping hands. Her mother, Jeanne Barton, started the successful floral design studio ten years ago and hoped one day Heather would follow in her footsteps. “She always seemed so happy when she was working with brides,” Heather remembers. “I just didn’t know if I could meet their expectations.” Today, four years later, Heather is running the company and exceeding expectations. “They do beautiful and amazing work,” raves an admiring colleague, “very upscale and reliable. Heather credits her gifted design team and their years of experience with hitting the mark again and again when it comes to attractive and original florals, but she’s the one who works directly with clients. As the main contact, she anticipates and interprets their wishes, directing her staff in their execution. Brides meet with her on site, reviewing the company’s portfolios for examples of past designs and sources of inspiration. “I never expect them to pick a bouquet out of a book,” explains Heather who is a strong proponent of personalization. “We use the photos for direction and then go from there.” She’s very flexible and gives clients plenty of time and latitude to make their decisions and communicate changes. “Heather has a lot of experience and really knows what she’s doing,” says a bride. “Anything I wanted, she got for me.” “My grandmother passed away two years ago,” recollects another young client. “I asked Heather if she could do something with her necklace, and Heather integrated it into my bouquet. It looked beautiful. I just loved it.”
It’s experience that allows Heather to ensure that all goes smoothly where flowers are concerned. “I like to anticipate what can happen,” she says. For example, she’s never without an alternate plan: a refrigerated back-up bouquet if the weather is hot, a floral arch to be used indoors if it’s suddenly rainy. Customers never have to worry. Perhaps that’s why clients love Cupid’s Arrow and shower them with referrals—that and the extraordinary beauty of their garlands, centerpieces, boutonnières and bouquets, which are often lovingly preserved as keepsakes. “Their professionalism and skill,” says a bride. “is nothing short of superb.” “They are consistently great,” agrees a coordinator. “They deliver on time, their set up is smooth, their staff is excellent and they’re great in all meetings with clients.”
“My favorite part,” confides Heather, “is when the bride sends me a picture of her bouquet. That’s what I live for. My mother cried when I took over the business,” she continues. “She was so happy. And I understand at last why she loved it so much. I’m happy too. I love what I do. I’ll be doing it for a long time.”
