“My five-word recommendation for Ron would go something like this: detailed, professional, knowledgeable, fun, and crazy-talented. He took our vision of how the night would go and made it happen. He nailed it! He played all the songs we wanted him to play and none of the songs we didn’t. And he filled in the rest of the night with songs he knew would keep our guests having fun.”
“Ron is a genius—he figured out how to keep my 90-year-old grandfather dancing until 11 pm! He is not cheesy, he does not play the same set list for every event, he personalized everything, and you can tell he loves what he does.”
“He really took the time to get to know us as a couple and even offered great ideas about how we could make our event unique. He was more of a MC than just a DJ. We didn’t want a traditional wedding and Ron really helped us make our event different. Ron did such a great job handling all of our guests’ requests. I would book Ron again in a heartbeat.”
“He put together an amazing play list based on both of our musical tastes. I would recommend him 100 times over!”
“We had a wedding coordinator but Ron was the one that really stood out to us as a creative force in our wedding. He is a great problem solver.”
Ron Grandia worked as multimedia producer for a number of years, creating TV commercials, internal corporate productions and the like. He’s also a lifetime music-fanatic and former college-radio DJ at San Jose State who worked his way through school DJing events, so when a long-time friend insisted Ron come out of retirement to DJ his wedding, Ron instantly rediscovered how much he loved the improvisation, creativity and energy of DJing for a room full of happy people. The rest is history.
Taking cues from his former career, Ron believes firmly that a lot of the important work he does is done during “pre-production.” By taking his time to get to know each couple well beforehand, he’s able to properly reflect their taste and sensibility and add a few unusual personal touches. For example, he’ll customize the introduction of the wedding party to include personal details of how and why they came to be in the bridal party or Ron might include a surprise recorded message from a loved who cannot attend. Whatever he does, whether it’s something funny or personally touching, it’s always appropriate and somehow just right for the moment.
As DJ and MC, he acts as a narrator in the wedding story, never upstaging the couple or their family and friends, but rather providing transitions from one phase of the party to the next giving guidance and context—and then getting out of the way of the fun. As one fellow wedding pro told us, “he’s not just another DJ playing ‘Celebration.’”
