Description
Its dockside location and Bay views may lure you to the Waterfront Plaza, but this hotel’s appeal goes far beyond the scenery. They take the hassle out of planning a wedding by providing coordination, food, drink, cake, flowers and a honeymoon suite, not to mention Sunday brunch and lodging for your guests.
The hotel occupies a quiet spot at one end of lively Jack London Square, and when you enter the modern high-ceilinged lobby, you leave the bustle behind. Many brides make their entrance across the lobby on a white runner, which takes them out through the double glass doors (with their brass ship’s-cleat handles), and directly onto the pool deck, where expectant guests are basking in the sun or watching a yacht tie up at the boat dock. White iron rails topped with burnished wood encircle this area, setting it apart from the public boardwalk just beyond. A white wooden gazebo is set up poolside for the ceremony, and afterwards, guests stroll down the boardwalk to the Spinnaker Room for the reception. It opens out onto the boardwalk and overlooks the water.
The Spinnaker Room and several other event spaces are designed to hold business meetings as well as weddings, rehearsal dinners and other functions. As such, they are neutral and understated in décor. However, a number of them offer lovely waterfront views, and the hotel is extremely flexible in adapting to your design ideas and special requests. For a pair who became engaged in Hawaii, the pool was strewn with tropical flowers, buffets bristled with pineapple ice sculptures, and a palm tree was installed for the evening. A couple as much in love with their motorcycles as each other were able to ride their "hogs" directly into their Spinnaker Room ceremony.
For a snazzy change of pace, hold your rehearsal dinner in Jack’s Bistro, the hotel’s bright and airy restaurant, which is accented with lighthearted murals. Over the bar is an eye-catching "black sky" filled with fiber-optic "stars" (including shooting "stars"). As you may have guessed, the Bistro’s a fun spot for a party. Guests might gather around the grand piano at one end of the room, or under the bright red umbrellas in the outdoor dining area. And by the way, if you happen to pay the hotel a visit during the day, stop into the elegant bakery at the front of the restaurant—the heady fragrance may persuade you to order your cake on the spot.
At the end of your big day you can collapse into bed in one of the hotel’s comfortable suites. Of course, this is contingent on your not sailing away on a yacht in a dramatic farewell. Anything’s possible at the Waterfront Plaza.
