Vintage Estate Napa Valley

Description

As you drive through California’s most fabled wine region, Yountville is the first town you reach heading north from the city of Napa on Highway 29. Almost as well known as St. Helena up the road, it shares many of the same amenities but moves at a slower, more relaxed pace. At the southern end of Yountville’s main street, is the 23-acre Vintage Estate, a multifaceted destination for anyone planning a Wine Country wedding or special event. If you want to experience a seamless melding of country casual and uptown elegance, this is the place to come.

The estate includes two AAA-Four Diamond award-winning hotels; Vintage 1870, a collection of specialty shops and galleries; and the property’s newest addition, the glorious Vineyard Pavilion.

Unquestionably the star of the estate, the Pavilion is a stunning, 16,000-square-foot outdoor space designed expressly for weddings. As you watch people enter it, you see them respond instinctively to its fine proportions and materials. Your eyes will dance about in appreciation, too, imagining just how beautiful your wedding day will look here.

The Pavilion is basically a pair of large lawns, one terraced above the other, bounded by fountains, arbors, and flagstone-faced and ivy-covered walls. The lower west lawn is the larger of the two, and its well-tended grass is almost as luxurious as a putting green. Criss-crossing brick paths divide the lawn into four quarters. The main path—the bridal aisle—ends at a tall wooden arbor set atop a stepped brick base and backed by a sinuous stone wall. This is the Pavilion’s primary ceremony space. Photographers often use the steps for photos, posing bridesmaids and groomsmen on them ascending toward the wedding couple. (The surrounding vineyards offer plenty of other photogenic spots, too.)

On one side of the lower west lawn area, two wall fountains gush glassy panes of water, while on the opposite side a long flowing fountain forms the retaining wall of the upper lawn. This smaller east lawn spreads toward a large arbor on the Pavilion’s east edge. The arbor, enclosed by large stone walls, is where most couples place their head table or softly playing musicians, while using the upper lawn for the reception. Another option is to use the arbor and upper lawn as the ceremony site and have guests dine on the lower lawn—the choice is entirely yours. After the meal, dance the evening away in the nearby Historic Barrel Room, entered through a garden populated with whimsical sculptures and flowerbeds.

Guests planning to extend their stay can simply walk over to either of the estate’s two hotels. The landscaping and range of flora at Villagio are magnificent, as is the inn’s very successful attempt at creating a bit of Tuscany and old Rome in the Napa Valley. The adjacent Vintage Inn is French Country in style. Both provide a lovely ending to a memorable Wine Country wedding. The Vintage Estate is a place given over to romance and pleasure, two things we think every bride deserves to expect in abundance.
