Description
Hidden behind a large wooden gate in the hills above Malibu, Villa de la Vina, with its look of a centuries-old European manor, could just as easily be perched above the Mediterranean. This captivating estate draws you in with her charms, and then keeps revealing new layers to entice you around each corner. With striking mountain views and an effortless flow of outdoor and indoor settings that take you from vows to reception, Villa de la Vina offers a private wedding location with panache.
Meticulously crafted to look as if it’s been part of this hillside for years, the ochre-colored, Spanish Mission-style residence abounds with decorative touches. There’s a magnificent mosaic-tiled doorway at the recessed main entry and three Juliet balconies gracing the top windows. A large central fountain and two mirror-image front patios with wrought-iron railings add to the “old world” feel. Ceremonies are held on the large flagstone courtyard that spreads out in front of the two-story residence, with two stately olive trees framing the picturesque house as your backdrop. To add to the romantic mood, you can have a soloist serenade you from one of the balconies.
After vows are exchanged, guests are ushered down a walkway at the side of the house past Italian cypress trees, grapevines and fragrant white rose bushes. There is a lovely pergola along the path where you can either have a receiving line or set up a small combo or classical guitarist. Some have even chosen this peaceful spot for a small ceremony. The Lower Patio, down a few steps, lends itself to cocktail receptions. Hedged by palm trees, its focal point is a series of tall angled pillars that form a cascading wall of water as they rise from a reflecting pool, lit from below.
If your family and friends can tear themselves away from this oasis, they’ll walk up the tiled steps to the Upper Patio for your dinner reception. Stretching the length of the house, this area overlooks the gorgeous, blue-tiled swimming pool. At one end of the pool is a seating pavilion, the perfect place for a sweetheart table. Across the patio on the other side is a grassy expanse where guests can lounge and enjoy the scenic vista.
Now that you’re ready to party, take one more turn towards the Side Patio, with its stone wall on one side and outdoor fireplace on the other. This is a great spot for after-dinner conversation, and it can also be rented separately for a more intimate gathering. Just inside is the Indoor Lounge, which has French doors and large windows that overlook the pool area. There’s a glass-enclosed wine cellar next to a granite-topped bar (complete with an LCD screen if you’d like to run home movies), and your band or DJ can perform from the raised alcove, in full view of the dance floor set up in front of the carved fireplace. As the evening winds down and you and your guests meet the valet attendants back at the courtyard gate, you’ve virtually come full circle, enjoying the 360-degree pleasures of this beguiling locale.

Fees & Deposits
A $5,000 deposit is required to reserve your date. The balance is due 30 days prior to the event. Rental fees range $1,000–10,000 depending on the date and type of event. The rental fee for weekend weddings is $10,000. Catering packages start at $60/person, and there are no corkage or cake-cutting fees. Tax, alcohol and a 15% service charge are additional.
