Description
From its breathtaking sanctuary to its wooded grounds, every element of Valley Presbyterian Church draws on the purity of the natural world to enhance your spiritual experience. "There’s a sense of peace here," explains one congregant. "You feel like a part of Nature, and thus closer to God."
The heart of Valley Presbyterian Church is the awe-inspiring sanctuary. Even without much in the way of fancy adornments, the sanctuary’s simplicity and unpretentious beauty evoke serenity and wonder. Guests enter through four heavy wooden doors, richly carved with images of New Testament figures. Flanking each side of the church are stone planters filled with lush greenery. Oak pews are upholstered in green fabric, and the A-frame pine ceiling is accented by dark beams. Polished riverbed stones in the washed aggregate floor echo the sanctuary’s earthy aesthetic.
However, it’s the soaring sanctuary windows behind the communion table that take your breath away: they frame a grove of majestic redwood trees reaching heavenward, while a filigree of sunbeams streams into the church. Guests face this magnificent forest scene, while from the steps below the communion table the bridal party enjoys its own striking tableau: the six-foot-tall stained-glass panel above the front doors that depicts a simple golden cross in a blue-toned mosaic. When the sun shines through it, the amber cross is reflected across the church onto the view of the redwoods, and seems to float mysteriously in the air—a sparkling vision that heightens the mood of peaceful reverence.
The church comes with the services of a minister, coordinator, organist, wedding hostess and hostess assistant. Every couple that marries at Valley Presbyterian attends a one-day Marriage Preparation Workshop, as well as a separate, private meeting with their assigned minister. All Christian denominations are welcome here, and though a Valley Presbyterian minister will be the main officiant of the wedding, you may invite a guest minister. Also included, but optional, are candelabras and candles, unity candle, silk floral arrangement, pew bows and aisle runner.
Valley Presbyterian Church believes in giving back to the community, and is known for its outreach and children’s programs. This is a church that actively promotes family, community, and spiritual values—a promising environment for starting a new life together.
