The marriage of handcrafted, organic San Francisco beers and Spanish tapas is celebrated with panache and gourmet flair at ThirstyBear Brewing Co. An unlikely match? Perhaps. But within this upscale brewpub in the city’s South of Market district, it’s a perfect combination for rehearsal dinners. Here, the traditional (and often stuffy) seated meal with in-laws before the big day has been replaced by a comfortable and relaxed dining experience. In fact, you and your closest family and friends may find yourselves sipping a Brown Bear Ale (brewed on the premises) while noshing on tuna crostini, empanadas, and shrimp skewers—and having a lot of fun.Walking into ThirstyBear, you pass a classic long bar, banquettes, and exposed brick on your way to the private and semi-private event spaces upstairs. As you ascend the modern, industrial staircase, the brewing tanks for the house-made beers come into view, letting you know this is in fact a working brewery. On the second floor, the friendly, yet sophisticated, atmosphere continues in the semi-private Billar Room. Vividly colored contemporary art and a private bar highlight this open area, while a pool table and darts game lend a casual touch. It’s ideally suited for a cocktail hour, beer tasting, or a buffet of tapas.
The adjacent Sillón Room provides total privacy and a lounge-like ambiance. Here you can host a lively sit-down meal animated by vibrant artwork and a colored-glass wall that adds pizzazz day or night. Family-style repasts complete with customized platters of tapas or large pans of paella (a menu specialty) work well in this open, airy spot. ThirstyBear’s knowledge of all things Spanish also extends to music: They’re happy to bring in a Spanish guitarist to play exclusively at your party in either the Sillón or Billar Room.
If your guest list tops 200 or more, why not reserve the whole place? Then you can take advantage of the entire downstairs restaurant/bar in addition to the rooms upstairs. One couple who did a buyout booked a guitarist and flamenco troupe to perform and teach partygoers some dance moves. It was a true Spanish extravaganza.
What ThirstyBear brings to all celebrations, whether they’re large or small, elaborate or low-key, is a lack of pretense and a true dedication to hassle-free entertaining. Amazing to note, too, is that ThirstyBear can often be booked for a party with as little as two months’ notice, something nearly unheard of at most Bay Area venues, much less at one so desirable. Add to that the delectable array of Spanish food, fresh sangria, full bar, and handcrafted organic beers, and you have a recipe for una buena fiesta.

Fees & Deposits
A small deposit may be required to reserve your date, call for details. The event total is due at the conclusion of the event. Rental fees range $100–500 depending on your guest count. If you have 25 or more guests, the room rental fee is waived. Meals range $22–55/person. Tax, alcohol and a 20% service charge are additional.
Availability
Year-round, Monday–Saturday, 9am–midnight. Sundays 5pm–10pm, but may be flexible depending on the event.
