Bently Reserve and Conference Center

Description

We always get asked about mansions in San Francisco, and to tell you the truth, there aren’t many that can accommodate large wedding receptions indoors. Although the Bently Reserve is not a mansion, it possesses the stately, elegant and understated grandeur you’d expect from a palatial estate. And it can handle quite a crowd.

Originally part of the lobby of the 1924 Bently Reserve, the event space has been fully restored and the building in which it’s housed is included in the National Register of Historic Places. The Bently Reserve is a fine example of San Francisco’s “banking temple” tradition and the government’s penchant for monumental classical architecture during that era. Inside, you’ll find one of the most dramatic staircases we’ve ever seen. If you’d like to make a theatrical entrance, descend the bronze and marble double stairway, which starts from two separate places and curves seamlessly down onto the gleaming marble floor below. Everywhere you look you’ll see French and Italian marble (or a close facsimile). Expertly painted faux marbling has transformed the two rows of 25-foot-tall Ionic columns that flank the room into “rock-solid” architectural elements. The entry doors are solid bronze, and two original bronze chandeliers (designed by the architect) draw your eyes up to the awe-inspiring 34-foot ceiling overhead. All in all, if you have an extended guest list and are searching for a grand location in the City, you couldn’t ask for a better spot.
