Temescal Gateway Park

Description

In the heart of posh Pacific Palisades, just a short quarter mile from Sunset Blvd., life suddenly becomes much simpler. The trappings of a modern and stressful world have been replaced by the peaceful sanctuary of Temescal Gateway Park, a popular retreat for religious groups, community organizations, and corporate personnel who have come to cherish these rejuvenating acres of protected land. Whether you’re in repose under the shade of an oak tree or ambling along one of the wilderness trails, the park is bound to inspire a sense of harmony with nature. And that’s the perfect spirit for celebrating special occasions in life, like birthdays, reunions, or weddings.

An easy walking path takes you up past several small meadows that can serve as outdoor event sites. Larger outdoor functions make use of Woodland Terrace, a spacious grassy area partially ringed by trees. For weddings, it’s easily divided into two sections, one for the ceremony and the other for cocktails and a buffet. It’s often used in conjunction with the nearby Woodland Hall, an old-fashioned lodge with a handsome stone fireplace. The tile floor is great for dancing.

Children’s parties are popular at Woodland Terrace, and parents have taken advantage of the open space to bring in a Fun Jump, pony rides, and even a petting zoo, though there’s already a variety of animals at the park; inquisitive squirrels, an assortment of birds, and gentle deer sometimes decide to check out the party, and sighting them is just one of the things that will make your event here memorable.

Deeper in the canyon, past modest cabins, Stewart Hall and a babbling brook, lies Sycamore Valley. Have your wedding ceremony underneath majestic sycamores and encircled by the unspoiled mountains. Then go inside for dinner and dancing in Stewart Hall, where an open-beamed ceiling lends a rustic flair, and a small stage can hold the band or a decorated head table.

Temescal Gateway Park is under the care of the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, an organization dedicated to restoring and protecting this fragile habitat. They have kept the rental fees for the event sites affordable, and the rest of the park’s pastoral beauty comes for free. For nature lovers or those wishing to recapture youthful memories of family camping, Temescal Gateway Park just may be the right venue for your next special celebration.
