Sycamore Mineral Springs

Description

As a preview to your Sycamore Mineral Springs experience, walk along the resort’s breezeways and peruse the evocative names of the suites and rooms: Mythical… Desire… Endeavor… It’s a little like reading a postcard sent home from a blissful vacation: “Savoring Harmony. Gaining Illumination. Having a Joyful time. Wish you were here…” Indeed, visit this extraordinary retreat and you may never want to leave!

Steeped in history, the resort is tucked into a forested valley above scenic Avila Beach. The site’s original fame came from its natural hot sulphur springs, discovered by oil prospectors in the late 1800s. “Taking the waters” has a long tradition as both a social and healthful pursuit, and during the Roaring Twenties, Hollywood’s “beautiful people” flocked to the spa built around these uniquely therapeutic mineral baths. Now at the dawn of the 21st century, Sycamore Mineral Springs has reached its zenith as an authentic health and wellness resort that embraces the Art of Relaxation. And as long as you’re balancing body and soul, why not invite your loved ones to celebrate with you amid this pastoral serenity?

Nestled against densely wooded hillsides, the resort’s Spanish-style buildings have red-tile roofs and wrought-iron details. A potpourri of native blooms marks pathways leading to the Gazebo Courtyard where ceremonies are held. Star jasmine perfumes a lushly landscaped lawn, embraced by towering sycamores. Brides walk down an aisle strewn with rose petals to a classic gazebo, perched atop a short flight of stairs. From a hidden grotto, cascading waterfalls whisper an accompaniment to heartfelt vows.

While the bridal party poses for photos in the nearby Rose Garden, small groups mingle in the courtyard. Receptions and larger cocktail gatherings are held in the hotel’s Palm and Fireside Room, which has a vaulted ceiling, mahogany trim and a marble-topped hearth. At one end, picture windows capture a view of billowing treetops. Guests dine on innovative eco-friendly cuisine from the on-site restaurant, the Gardens of Avila. Also a lovely place for mini-events, the celebrated bistro has been named “Most Romantic Restaurant on the Central Coast.”

All lodging includes hot tub patios, but wedding packages treat newlyweds to something special: a spa suite in secluded West Meadows. A walking bridge leads to a rustic creek-fed enclave adorned with sunflowers, wild lavender and flowering herbs. You’ll spend your wedding night surrounded by nature, but will still have all the modern conveniences!

Renovated in 2007, the resort offers a tantalizing array of amenities for both healing and indulging that let you customize your destination weekend. Explore hiking trails, take a pilates, yoga or tai chi class, rent bikes, stroll down to the beach or walk the labyrinth in the Meditation Garden. Why not create a romantic spa package or bond with your pals over a catered luncheon at the Oasis, a spacious private hot tub with two waterfalls?

Close to Hearst Castle, wineries and beaches, Sycamore Mineral Springs is not only an idyllic spot for a wedding, it’s an ideal base for a Central Coast adventure.
