Description
Poised on the banks of a serene lagoon, the Sofitel San Francisco Bay is a grand hotel that still conveys a sense of warmth and intimacy. Though it boasts a European heritage and French-inspired cuisine, Sofitel has a California-style friendliness and an experienced staff that make you feel right at home.
If the weather is fine, then consider having your wedding ceremony on the dock, overlooking a tranquil waterway where egrets and blue herons feed alongside flocks of ducks and geese. Follow up with a swanky cocktail hour on the landscaped patio surrounding the swimming pool, with the glistening lagoon just a few yards away. For the adventurous, the pool and patio can also be tented for a glamorous evening reception.
There are plenty of event options indoors as well—twenty rooms in all! One of our favorite choices for a reception is Baccarat, a sophisticated restaurant overlooking the water. With floor-to-ceiling bay windows, Baccarat is suffused with natural light. Colors are soft and muted in cream, pale pink and teal. At one end of the restaurant is the Crystal Room, named for the brilliant Baccarat chandelier suspended from the ceiling. When the etched-glass doors are closed, it becomes a private dining room. Open them wide and voil—you have an additional room for a buffet setup, bar, head table or small dancing area. There is also a marble-floored foyer leading into Baccarat that is well suited for pre-reception cocktails, the gift table and the guest book.
If your guest list is large, don’t worry. Hotel Sofitel’s 6,200-square-foot Grand Ballroom can accommodate a sizable crowd. Guests enter through the impressive marble-floored Hotel Lobby, and head to the Ballroom Foyer for prefunction champagne and hors d’oeuvres. Inside, the Grand Ballroom can be used in its entirety or divided in half, depending on the size of your party. The décor is done in traditionally elegant shades of deep burgundy, teal and cream, with translucent, golden-domed chandeliers. For smaller receptions, wedding showers or rehearsal dinners, reserve the Grand Salon.
Sofitel has a reputation for superbly prepared gourmet fare, best described as a delightful fusion of Provenal and California cuisine. To help you relax after the big event, Sofitel offers a complimentary suite for the bride and groom, and special group rates for out-of-town guests. There will be plenty of takers for any overnight accommodations you arrange, as no doubt guests will want to extend their visit to this gracious establishment as long as possible!

Fees & Deposits
For events, 10% of the estimated total is required as a nonrefundable deposit when you book your date; 50% of the estimated total is due 6 months prior, and another 25% is due 1 month prior to the event. The remaining balance is required 1 week prior to the event, and a guaranteed guest count is due 3 business days prior. Any remaining charges are payable at the conclusion of your event. Wedding packages range $85–160/person; sales tax and a 20% service charge are additional. The Sofitel offers a discount for Friday and Sunday receptions. For meetings, room rental fees start at $400/day.
