Description
This posh property, located at the gateway to the Wine Country, is a recent addition to an artful complex of buildings along the grassy banks of the Petaluma River. Its sloping roof and white clapboard-style siding evoke a bit of New England maritime architecture, a harmonious complement to the waterfront setting.
Inside, the hotel is truly the epitome of understated elegance. An abundance of natural light and soft colors create an airy, relaxing atmosphere. Walls are predominantly painted a warm eggshell yellow, and the interior is finished in birch, a beautiful wood. The décor is dramatic—especially in the Lobby. Here, faux marble columns contribute to the sculpted look of the place, while the hotel’s most striking design element—a curved glass staircase—draws the eye to the skylit atrium. Flanked by soaring bamboo, it gracefully descends from the second floor to the lobby. You can almost see a bride gliding down the steps.
The main wedding and reception site is the Great Heron Room, named after one of the grand birds that fly into the 300-acre wetland next to the hotel. Its amber-colored chandeliers and sophisticated palette of copper, yellows and subdued whites, create a memorable space. Up on the second floor, the Snowy Egret Room easily accommodates more intimate receptions, rehearsal dinners and indoor ceremonies. Accessed via the glass staircase, it has a full wall of windows and an adjoining balcony that overlook the marina.
Newlyweds frequently reserve the two-story Loft Suite, lavishly designed with honeymooners in mind. In addition to fabulous views of the marina and wetlands through double-high floor-to-ceiling windows, it’s outfitted with its own bar, two marble-appointed bathrooms, a Jacuzzi, and a state-of-the-art entertainment center.
The hotel offers other amenities, some of which you will seldom find elsewhere: two riverside docks welcome daytime boat berthing; the hotel’s technology includes wireless PC setups; and the front desk can program guests’ numbers into a bride’s phone so that she can instantly reach any of them without an operator.
Besides its picturesque surroundings, this Sheraton derives another benefit from its enviable Wine Country location: a cornucopia of locally grown foods whose quality has been compared to that of Provence, France. The freshest regional ingredients are incorporated into all wedding meals, from showers and rehearsal dinners to receptions and post-wedding farewell breakfasts. The culinary team, like the rest of the staff, have years of experience and it shows. The most common compliment brides give is praise for the hotel’s high level of service. They’re impressed with the food, the attentiveness of the wait staff and the hotel’s recommended vendors. Special thanks is often extended to the hotel’s wedding coordinator, who insists that each wedding be treated as a one-of-a-kind event.
Weddings—indeed all celebrations here—involve the entire hotel staff, who focus their efforts on one goal: making your event as wonderful as possible. That collective dedication is the reason that in 2004 the Sheraton Sonoma County-Petaluma ranked #5 in customer satisfaction of all the Sheratons in North America. It’s no wonder this place has become one of the North Bay’s most significant wedding venues.
