If you long to get married near the sea, set a course for the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina. Found at the northern latitudes of San Diego Bay on Harbor Island, this two-towered establishment offers panoramic views unmatched by all but the tallest of crow’s nests. Sailboats, cruise ships, and navy vessels constantly parade past the West Tower’s front door as they ply their way to the open waters of the Pacific. Party boats and stately yachts bob side by side in the private marina on this skinny isle’s north end, awaiting their chance to weigh anchor. To the east, the million-dollar vista is filled with twinkling city lights.The hotel boasts some of the prettiest sites on dry land to hold a ceremony: On the marina side, the newly created Garden Terrace bursts with multi-hued flowers and bushes. Fragrant purple pansies, white tea roses, lavender, gardenia, jasmine, box hedges and magnolia trees line a latticed arbor walkway, winding to a calming fountain created solely to buoy the spirits of brides as they prepare to take those momentous steps down the aisle. Beyond an arched white lattice gate, friends and family assemble, taking their seats on crisp white chairs arranged on an always-perfect green lawn alongside the water. Faux turf prevents high heels from sinking and keeps dirt off shoes and clothing, making an outdoor ceremony that much more enjoyable. Another site, the Bayview Lawn, offers southerly views of passing ships while nestled under shade trees near the East Tower.
If you prefer a ceremony at sea, board a private yacht, and have the captain officiate your wedding. Participate in the tradition of scattering rose petals into the wind, and watch the waves carry the floating petals to the horizon.
Back ashore, numerous patios, terraces, and lounges allow guests to mingle during cocktail hour in the glow of the setting sun, perhaps watching the customary evening regatta or departing ocean liners. Clear glass panels surrounding some patios allow unobstructed views comfortably protected from ocean breezes. Then it’s off to one of the Sheraton’s half-dozen versatile ballrooms for dinner and dancing. Whether you choose an intimate room for 10 or a 100,000-square-foot tented Bayshore Pavilion for 2,000 of your closest friends, the hotel can accommodate any size reception, often with late notice.
The Bel Aire Ballroom, for example, is a popular choice, with marble walls complemented by understated striped wallpaper and navy carpet, and an immense mirrored chandelier that evokes icicles dangling in a winter castle. Like the Bel Aire, most of the venue’s reception spaces boast spectacular floor-to-ceiling views of the water or city skyline. Decor is subtly nautical, as you might find on a well-appointed pleasure craft. Seated on custom-made blue-striped parlor chairs, your guests will savor their gourmet food served on fine English white porcelain china and drink from posh stemware, also part of the Sheraton’s efforts to elevate your wedding experience. In fact, you’ll find management and staff will go overboard to give your wedding the attention it deserves. Here’s to smooth sailing!

A deposit is required to reserve your date. The estimated event total is due 10 days before the event and final payment is due 72 business hours prior. Meals range $59–150/person. Tax, alcohol and a 22% service charge are additional.
