Sausalito Presbyterian Church

Description

Nowadays, you can get married just about anywhere. People tie the knot jumping out of planes, at the bottom of the ocean, on the Golden Gate Bridge—you name it, someone’s been married there. But let’s face it: there is something elegantly classic, something comfortingly traditional about getting married in a church. And when the church is as beautiful as the Sausalito Presbyterian, well, there’s simply no reason to look anywhere else.

Clinging to the steep oak-clad hills of Sausalito, this century-old church is a warm, intimate place to exchange vows. Its redwood shingle exterior blends effortlessly with the surrounding oaks, dogwood trees and flourishing shrubs, while the building’s Gothic-arched porch and series of peaked rooflines draw the eye skywards. The interior is paneled entirely in redwood, and draperies are in antique gold. The pews are covered with a Charles Eames designer fabric that is compatible with the church’s historical style.

One of the church’s most unusual features is the dramatic pyramid-shaped, vaulted ceiling, with leaded glass windows that serve as skylights. Other design elements include hardwood floors, wood-and-glass chandeliers and twenty glass wall sconces. For a truly magical effect at your wedding, these sconces can be outfitted with real candles. Sausalito Presbyterian has a state-of-the-art sound system and a new organ that can duplicate any instrument from a delicate harp to a fortissimo trumpet.

Downstairs, Thomson Hall is available for receptions. It features gleaming Australian hardwood floors, a grand piano, white walls with wide dark-wood trim and wainscoting, plus plenty of leaded glass windows to showcase the beautiful views. A courtyard just off Thomson Hall allows your guests to enjoy the sunshine and sea breezes. If you’d like a larger venue for your reception, fine hotels and restaurants are just steps away from Sausalito Presbyterian.

When you choose to get married at Sausalito Presbyterian Church, you get not only an exquisite wedding site, but a host of other services, such as a wedding director, music director, private bride’s room and scheduled rehearsal time. People of all faiths and nationalities can be married here. You can write your own vows or, if you’re suffering from writer’s block, the minister and wedding staff will inspire you with some sample ceremonies. And this isn’t the kind of church where you’re forgotten as soon as the rose petals are swept off the church steps! Sausalito Presbyterian has realistic pre-and post-wedding educational programs for couples. So if your idea of marriage includes not only a storybook wedding, but a vision of "happily ever after," head for the hills of Sausalito and the Sausalito Presbyterian Church!
