The answer is a resounding yes!—just visit Sanctuary Beach Resort, the blufftop oasis overlooking a secluded stretch of beach on Monterey Bay. Along the shoreline, acres of windswept dunes house a unique bio-community, previously threatened by decades of sand mining. Visionary hotelier John King had an idea—work with the California Coastal Commission to restore the fragile eco-system, and create a boutique resort where visitors could experience the dunes’ unmatched beauty. The result is an eco-friendly special event locale that is at once sophisticated and natural, classy yet relaxed.
Discrete beach bungalows, spread over 19 acres, blend seamlessly into their environs. Your deluxe accommodations come with slate floors, leather settees, and jacquard linens, and once you settle in, you may not want to leave. Nature is literally at your window: Open the glass doors of your private deck to the pungent salt air, and scan the horizon for pelicans or a breaching whale from your plush king-size bed. As wisps of twilight fog roll in, bask in the warmth from your fireplace.
If you do bestir yourself, a recreational path beginning at the resort runs along the water’s edge. This is "Dune Territory," with a quiet drama all its own: Snowy Plovers dart about their sandy nests, and Smith’s Blue Butterflies sip nectar from pink buckwheat bending in the breeze. In warmer months, the dunes are painted with golden poppies and lavender sea daisies. Couples can’t resist the romance of this untamed setting, and often say their vows against the backdrop of the splashing surf. Don’t forget to add dolphins to your guest list, as a resident pod often passes close to shore.
Private cocktail hours and intimate receptions find an elegant welcome in the Main Lodge, which can be used with the Dunes and Cypress Rooms as overflow space, and has a vaulted redwood ceiling and exposed beams which lend an earthy appeal. The bright and airy second-floor Mezzanine is trimmed in frosted glass, and culminates in the Gallery, with a fireplace and clerestory windows that bathe the space in a honeyed glow. Guests toast the day here, or on an adjoining balcony that looks out to the dunes.
Larger receptions celebrate in the resort’s restaurant, an Old West-style ranch house and tapas bar known for delicious, hearty meals and gracious hospitality. Sanctuary Beach Resort’s on-site spa services, swimming pool and Jacuzzi complete the relaxation menu.

Fees & Deposits
50% of the rental fee is required to reserve your date. The balance is due 30 days prior to the event. Rental fees start at $3000 depending on space, hotel room bookings, and day and time rented.
