San Dimas Canyon Golf Course

Description

Some wedding venues have only one attribute that makes brides say “Yes!” right away. San Dimas Canyon Golf Course has several. For starters, there’s its beautiful location at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains; a tranquil enclosed ceremony area with an arbor that’s just steps away from the banquet room; and a seasoned catering staff.

But the thing that most endears brides to this place may well be the terrace adjoining the banquet facility. It’s like a broad tropical veranda—open, airy, and decorated with small fan palms. From here you have quite a view: a putting green as well as the fairways, plus some of the grandest peaks of the San Gabriels. The tree-dotted golf course slopes gently down to a seasonal creek that descends from the peaks in winter. This is a lovely vista, both for its geology and its Inland Empire palette of greens, browns, golds and soft grays.

The banquet room, refurbished in 2007, features stylish chandeliers and sconces, and rich chocolate-colored carpets and molding that give the space an uptown feel. The ceremony area has a long lawn with a center aisle that leads to a bright white-lattice arbor. A brick wall encloses the space to give it privacy, and there’s a wonderful grace note: three handsome smooth-barked eucalyptus trees soar like living sculptures over the far end of the lawn.

San Dimas has two lakes on site—perfect for wedding photos—but keep in mind that they’re accessible only to the couple and their photographer. For shots involving larger groups and the rest of the wedding party, the favorite spot is under massive twin oaks that stand a stone’s throw from the banquet room. The arbor and ceremony lawn are also another preferred and convenient place for posing.

If you’re hoping for a free hand with decorations, you’ll have it here. San Dimas requests only that you refrain from making holes in decorated surfaces, and from using confetti or glitter to shower the newlyweds.

Besides the terrace and the views, brides who’ve had their wedding at San Dimas laud the staff’s catering prowess and general helpfulness. Menus are varied, and choices range from simple to elaborate. The club can also recommend reliable, experienced vendors.

When you’re going down the checklist of items you must think about when planning your wedding, from setting and décor to service and amenities, you’ll find that San Dimas really does offer many of the things that make a bride say "Yes!"
