Description
Just 25 miles from downtown San Diego, this 40-acre resort sits high on a plateau overlooking the rolling hills of Rancho Santa Fe. It’s designed in the tradition of early California haciendas, with clusters of stucco buildings and an abundance of tile—on roofs, terraces and fountains.
The resort is quite versatile, featuring plenty of appealing indoor and outdoor event spots year-round. La Sala, often used for cocktail receptions, is both sophisticated and casual. Comfortable contemporary furnishings are arranged in front of a large stone fireplace, and a vaulted beamed ceiling of whitewashed pine gives the room a spacious, airy feel. A huge picture window overlooks a croquet lawn, and French doors open onto a partially covered tiled terrace. The Sunrise Room and its adjacent patio are also popular for intimate weddings. Ceremonies take place on the patio, a long rectangle of Mexican pavers with a fountain at one end and a large trellis flanked by flowers at the other. Afterwards, guests step into the Sunrise Room, named for the morning sunlight that floods the space. It’s a ceramic wonderland, with bright blue, yellow and green hand-painted tiles covering the walls from top to bottom.
Large weddings are held on the Croquet Lawn, an expanse of green as smooth as the surface of a billiard table, with panoramic views of the surrounding hills. You can tent your ceremony, reception or both, and, if you’re lucky, you’ll get to watch vibrantly colored hot-air balloons sail by overhead. The adjacent Fountain Courtyard, with its bubbling terracotta fountain and flowering planters, provides a gathering place for pre-reception cocktails.
The Terrace Room, a nontraditional banquet room with tile wainscoting and recessed adjustable lighting, accommodates indoor receptions. Plantation-shuttered doors open onto a covered terrace, framed by a series of arches and set off by brilliant bougainvillea. For rehearsal dinners the Boardroom is a stately, elegant room with high-back upholstered chairs, an open-beamed ceiling, plantation shutters and its own little palm-bordered patio.
The entire bridal party will enjoy the benefits of The Spa Rancho Valencia, a 10,000-square-foot paradise for the senses whose tranquil décor, Italian fountains, pools and treatment rooms invite guests to free themselves from the stresses of the world. Drawing on natural products from the area, including avocado and grape seed oils and healing agents from the ocean, The Spa offers an extensive menu of leading-edge treatments for skin, face and body. Sensual massages are also available for couples.
Rancho Valencia is not only a great place for a wedding, it’s also worth considering for a romantic getaway. Stay overnight in a beautifully appointed three-suite house (or any number of smaller casitas), and take advantage of the on-site recreational activities as well as nearby beaches, shopping and coastal attractions.

Fees & Deposits
To guarantee your date, a signed contract along with a deposit of the estimated food and beverage total is required. The balance is due 60 days prior to the event. A final guest count is due 72 hours in advance. The Croquet Lawn can be tented; a variable charge applies. Depending on the season and event, the rental fees may range $250–1,200. Luncheons start at $90/person, dinners at $130/person. Tax and a 20% service charge are included in the estimate.
