PruneYard Plaza Hotel

Description

Not long ago, Campbell was home to miles of rustic prune orchards. The city has since become a busy South Bay mecca, highlighted by cosmopolitan restaurants, shops and nightlife. In the midst of this sophisticated urban environment you’ll find a bit of Tuscany, courtesy of the Pruneyard Plaza Hotel.

One of the Larkspur Hospitality Collection Hotels, the Inn just completed a $1.5 million upgrade that has transformed it from ordinary to outstanding—think upscale Italian pensione. The three-story, 171-room property now offers European-style glamour and service.

As you approach the hotel, you’re greeted by a graceful, tri-level stone fountain in the center of the circular driveway out front. The soothing sound of cascading water quickly begins to wash away the stress of your day, and the promise of calm beckons you into this golden-hued getaway. Inside the spacious lobby, enormous earth-toned terra cotta tiles cover the expansive floor, while moss green-gray walls play up dramatic area rugs featuring a pattern of fall colors. Large cushy chairs clustered around a white-edged fireplace invite conversation.

Through the lobby and past the small, tastefully appointed dining room (where your out-of-town guests will find plenty of healthful options for a morning-after brunch), a storybook-perfect patio area awaits, enclosed by a picturesque fence. This spot would be lovely for a day or evening ceremony, and it works equally well for a reception. From spring through fall, scarlet hibiscus flowers cover the latticed arbors that bookend the space. Huge clay pots filled with lavender peonies are placed around the used-brick terrace, instantly bringing to mind a neighborhood square in northern Italy.

Intimate indoor receptions are held in the Orchard Room on the third floor. Its vaulted fifteen-foot, cream-colored ceiling lends an airy feel to the room. During the day, tall windows bathe the muted pastel-green walls in light; to create a more subdued ambiance, just close the wooden shutters. Wall-to-wall carpeting in burgundy and gold echoes the pattern of the rugs in the lobby, and a rustic Mediterranean breakfront and smaller side tables complete the "elegant country" theme.

For a larger celebration, reserve the Harvest Room on the mezzanine level. It’s similar in décor to the Orchard Room and has a light oak dance floor. One of the best things about having an event here is that you have access to the mezzanine itself. It’s a wonderful prefunction space where guests can mingle, or simply stand at the black wrought-iron-and-brass railing with cocktail in hand and watch the activity in the Lobby below.

Naturally, the Pruneyard Plaza Hotel can accommodate the newlyweds, the wedding party and visiting guests in style. The parents of the bride and groom often stay in Executive Suites, while the couple reserves one of the two penthouse honeymoon suites. Both feature a fireplace, decorator-quality Euro-country furnishings and a roomy spa tub, as well as a private balcony that faces the pool and outdoor hot tub. All rooms include high-end amenities; some have kitchenettes for those planning extended stays. Perhaps most convenient, the property adjoins the Pruneyard, a full-service shopping area where the bride and her attendants can be coiffed and made up (and gowned, if need be), while the groomsmen can rent tuxedos or have theirs pressed. Plan your wedding at this boutique hotel, and you’ll enjoy old-world charm combined with the best of modern-day hospitality.
