Many desirable dates have opened up through June 2008. Even if you have a deposit at another location, talk to the banquet manager at Peacock Gap—you’ll be surprised.
Description
You might think that a country club in an upscale neighborhood, surrounded by beautiful wooded ridges and boasting a straight-on view of Mt. Tamalpais, would not be interested in hosting reasonably priced, hard-dancing, fun-loving wedding parties.
Think again. Peacock Gap Country Club and Spa, centerpiece of one of Marin County’s toniest neighborhoods, has a reputation for going against the grain. "People often expect us to be very stuffy and conservative," says the club’s banquet manager, "but we’re not—we want our guests to have a fun-filled, enjoyable evening in an elegant setting."
The spacious Clubhouse, which overlooks the 18-hole golf course, has a full bar at one end, a reception area in the middle, and a large dining/dancing/meeting room. The areas can be separated, or joined according to need by Japanese-style sliding partitions made of dark wood and milky white opaque paper panes. The entire south wall, running the length of the facility from meeting space to bar, is floor-to-ceiling windows. The A-shaped ceiling lends a further sense of size to the space, and track lighting throughout can be customized to create any mood.
Outside the main room, a 2,000-square-foot terrace looks out onto the golf course, a driving range, the surrounding hills and Mt. Tamalpais. With the addition of a canopy in one corner, framing Mt. Tam, the terrace is a popular site for wedding ceremonies.
Food for events is catered by Peacock Gap’s chef, who has been there over twenty years. Most people opt for the Club’s signature buffet, a bountiful, colorful, multi-tiered presentation of a wide range of dishes. It’s a gorgeous sight to behold, and guests are free to eat whatever they like, from meats carved at the table to vegetarian entrées. Food and wine packages are also set at very reasonable per-person rates; the rates are fixed, with no variables or surprises, and no cake-cutting or parking fees.
Many wedding parties start off with a round of golf in the morning, followed by the ceremony and reception. As dusk arrives, partygoers often find themselves happily surprised as the trees near the Clubhouse light up, festooned with strings of small lights. The golf course is also fully lit, making for a romantic view from the terrace and the walkway along the Clubhouse’s south-facing glass wall. Because the country club’s neighbors are at a distance, parties that book the club receive a six-hour reservation, with very few curfews or sound restrictions.
The banquet staff, who have an extensive background in coordinating events, can help clients with all aspects of a wedding, including invitations, entertainment, menus, party favors and limousine service. They are also experienced at handling meetings. Companies using the club can take advantage of an arrival room and VIP room for greeting and hosting important guests. The same facilities and services available to wedding parties are available to other groups, too.
The car trip out to Peacock Gap from Highway 101 puts people in a good mood. During the short drive along San Pablo Bay, past islands and bridges, tidal flats and woodlands, they naturally relax. When they arrive at the country club, the facilities, view and friendly service only enhance their positive state of mind.
