Pasadena Center

Description

Pasadena is sometimes called "the city that feels like a village." At 74,000 square feet, the Pasadena Conference Center could be considered a village unto itself. Whether you’re planning a convention, a sophisticated reception, or just an intimate gathering of close friends, you’ll find a space to suit you at the Center. The East Pavilion and Conference Buildings offer clean, contemporary palettes for your imaginative decor, and have been completely transformed for film parties, awards shows, and corporate launches into dynamic visual statements—like the fantastical design Disney did for the premiere of Atlantis. While these two buildings are thoroughly modern, the Pasadena Civic Auditorium is a glorious jaunt into the past.

Built in 1932 during the Depression, the Civic is a testament to community collaboration and courage during trying times. Crafted in the Italian Renaissance style, its soaring archways and dramatic artistry exalt the potential of the human spirit. The enduring design still has an inspiring effect on visitors, beginning with the stately exterior. Arched second-story windows trimmed in tile mosaics provide a punch of color against an oatmeal-hued façade. A broad stairway flanked by balustrades leads to a spacious terrace which wraps around the building, and is an excellent spot for cocktail receptions. Across the street is the Paseo Colorado, the city’s upscale shopping mecca, so while guests are "up and away" from the bustle, they can still watch the activity below.

You get your first taste of the Civic’s operatic panache inside the Foyer, where a series of vaulted ceilings painted a pale shade of turquoise makes you think of sea and sky. Heavy oak doors open into the Lobby, where a magnificent hand-painted coffered ceiling displays heraldic emblems against a rich shade of hyacinth blue. Trompe l’oeil curtains seem to flutter as you climb the carpeted stairway that sweeps up to the Balcony, the best place to survey the breathtaking theatre. On the magnificent ceiling, painted in the style of Raphael, cream-colored reliefs of mythological figures cavort against peach and aqua backgrounds. Images of shepherdesses and fauns embellish peach panels that surround the audience, seated in teal velveteen chairs. The baroque motifs converge in the elaborately decorated proscenium that brings all eyes to rest on the stage. It may be hard to believe, but you can have your wedding ceremony right here on this same stage where Pavarotti sings his arias and television stars collect their Emmys. With much of the theatre’s technical elements at your disposal, you can hold your very own "command performance" for your friends and family in the audience. Or give your guests the "star treatment" and host the reception right on stage!

Another reception choice is on the Mezzanine level: the Gold Ballroom. With rosette ceiling moldings, brass chandeliers, and the gilded hues of the walls and velvet draperies, the Gold Room exudes an air of elegant refinement.

With such varied venue options, the Pasadena Conference Center is a veritable smorgasbord of event possibilities!
