Orange County Museum of Art

Description

You oughta be in pictures—and you will be, for they’ll surround you and your guests when you plan your event at Orange County’s premier visual arts museum. With its capacious Pavilion, soaring ceilings, white walls and dramatic columns, the recently redesigned Orange County Museum of Art is a stunning contemporary setting. And while it might seem like an unlikely venue for a wedding or corporate banquet, for the party planner with imagination it’s a big, blank canvas on which to “paint” virtually any vision.

Ready to show your artistic side? Dress up the interior for a supper club feel. Bring in a disco ball for an ’80s-themed party. Arrange for theatrical lighting on floor-to-ceiling pillars. Stage a gazebo or add sparkly lights to bamboo foliage in the outdoor Orange Court, adjoining the Pavilion. It’s up to you! Be Picasso or Jackson Pollack, depending on what kind of lines, colors and mood suit your style.

Even with minimal brush strokes, this is a great party backdrop. There’s inherent drama, yet nothing distracting, in the museum’s open space, sculptural elements, smooth concrete floors and neutral color palette. To warm things up and prove you really are in pictures, put together a personal audiovisual show and project it on a giant screen hanging from the Pavilion ceiling. Positioned to eliminate shadows and be visible to everyone, the screen is a wonderful way to share imagery documenting meaningful times.

If you want to “wow” your guests, use the Pavilion and Orange Court as an indoor-outdoor area for cocktails and conversation. Then, gather everyone inside and close the Pavilion’s electric doors while the Court is transformed for your ceremony. When the doors open to reveal a magical outdoor arena, you’ll know you’ve tapped into the site’s theatrical potential by the audible “oohs.”

At this unusual party venue, striking architecture and unlimited decorating and staging possibilities are just part of the story. There’s an added dimension here unavailable at more typical celebration sites: along with your gala proceedings, guests will enjoy an intimate gallery experience. With private access to one of the museum’s multi-room galleries, they’ll mingle among fine examples of modern and contemporary art.

Even the food is arty here. The museum maintains a strong working relationship with several caterers, all of whom are noted for their high quality of service, creative menus and exceptional cuisine.

What you won’t find at the Orange County Museum of Art is pre-fabricated romance with swans, rose gardens or garlands hanging from the ceiling. But if what you’re seeking is something with an edge and a dimension not offered in more traditional hotels and country clubs, think about framing your event here.
