The Oaks in Belmont

Description

The pretty town of Belmont is known for its wooded hills, views of the San Francisco Bay and friendly, community spirit. It also boasts a rich history of colorful inhabitants, including the native Ohlone people, missionary Junipero Serra, an Italian Count, and even a former California governor! Current Belmont residents may not be so flashy, but they do like a good party. Their venue of choice? The Oaks, a congenial gathering place for life’s celebratory moments. But there’s no reason that folks from other Bay Area suburbs shouldn’t take advantage of this user-friendly facility, especially considering its central location halfway between San Francisco and San Jose.

Located behind a neighborhood church, the Oaks is tucked against a soaring thicket of oak trees that inspired the name. The facility has a huge (free!) parking lot to accommodate your guests. If you’re getting married here, your friends and family will follow a short path along a landscaped terrace. At a bower of bougainvillea the color of a cherry popsicle, wooden steps descend to a cozy demi-lune amphitheatre. Three rows of brick-lined banquettes offer an intimate view of the bridal party, poised on a small stage just below. In the background, the church’s curving white wall is topped with a plain dome and a dainty gold cross, conveying an aura of simplicity and reverence.

Following the ceremony, guests toast the newlyweds on the terrace, then step inside to an adjacent foyer. Several round skylights, and an all-glass wall makes this a bright and cheery spot to serve appetizers and cocktails.

Next, adjourn to the banquet hall, a contemporary room with an entire wall of French doors that captures the lush tree boughs framing the parking lot. The focal point, however, is the fireplace at one end of the hall. Its mantel is topped with a mosaic depicting a trio of winged angels, an attractive backdrop for the head table. Twinkle lights around all the doors and teal-blue carpeting patterned with roses contribute a touch of romance. A built-in service bar makes serving drinks a snap.

If you’re envisioning a larger event, there’s the recreation hall at the opposite end of the foyer. High ceilings and rows of gothic windows lend distinction; with the addition of carpets, drapery swags, potted greenery and other elegant flourishes, this spacious hall can be transformed into a tasteful setting for your reception.

The Oaks is available exclusively through Nob Hill Catering, a family-owned operation that’s been satisfying Bay Area clients since 1978. They’ll customize your menu, or you can choose from one of their themed offerings—from Greek to Asian. At your request, they supply linens, chairs, fine china, flatware, glassware and decorations to enhance the ambiance of your once-in-a-lifetime celebration. The icing on the cake? Amazing prices and personal service, a perfect complement to Belmont’s small-town hospitality.
