Music Center

Description

The cultural lifeblood of Los Angeles flows through a seven-acre performing arts complex in downtown that’s been presenting outstanding opera, symphony, and live theatre for decades. Built in the 1960s through cooperation between county officials and private donors, the Music Center represents all that’s great about L.A.—a strong sense of community, legendary glamour, and unparalleled entertainment. Now you can join the likes of the Joffrey Ballet and the Los Angeles Opera as part of this cultural extravaganza, and showcase your special event in one of the Music Center’s scintillating locales.

The Center’s three splendid theatres, the Mark Taper Forum, the Ahmanson, and the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, share a sprawling plaza that rises above street level like an urban plateau. Whether it’s used alone or in conjunction with one of the Pavilion’s classy rooms, the Plaza is a versatile outdoor setting dotted with trees and artistic statuary. The abstract stone sculpture "Peace on Earth," with its romantic dove motif, is poised above a world-famous water court that captivates tourists and locals alike with elaborate aquatic displays. Enclose part of the Plaza for your private use, or fill the entire courtyard with 3,000 of your closest friends. Enhanced with theatrical lighting and specialty decor, sunset wedding ceremonies and nighttime galas take on a mood of enchantment.

Indoor celebrations begin in the Dorothy Chandler’s magnificent lobby. The ambiance is rich and radiant, with shiny marble floors, a gilded dome, and pillars of gold Byzantine tiles. The highlight is the stupendous Grand Staircase, decked in marble and flanked by twin reflecting pools where bronzes of dancers seem like graceful ladies-in-waiting. Brides find this opportunity for a dramatic entrance simply irresistible; twin carpeted staircases meet halfway down at a broad landing where the couple says their vows. The cocktail hour can be held on the Pavilion’s terrace, out in the Plaza, or upstairs in the Oval Bar. This stylish space has dark wood paneling that offsets exotic museum-quality art. The most formal and refined of receptions is at home in the stunning Grand Hall, where guests dine in the dazzling gleam of Bavarian crystal chandeliers. Lofty ceilings are speckled with iridescent mosaics, and the Pavilion’s clear glass façade lets in the sparkling beauty of the Plaza below.

Yet another option is the Fifth Floor, a tastefully appointed ballroom with floor-to-ceiling windows showcasing the cityscape below. Seating up to 450 for a lavish reception, the Fifth Floor also easily divides into three sections (each with its own entrance) for each phase of an intimate celebration. First, let the view be the backdrop to your ceremony, enhanced with silk canopies, potted saplings along the aisle, or whatever accoutrements you fancy. After the first kiss, champagne flows freely in the center section, where portable bars and lounge seating encourage everyone to unwind. Finally, guests dine and dance in the remainder of the Fifth Floor, illuminated by chandeliers fashioned of ivory prisms. Plush gold draperies frame the tall windows overlooking the water court, lit up at night with spotlights.

Back on street-level, the European-influenced Kendall’s Brasserie makes rehearsal dinners a breeze in one of their eclectic private dining rooms.

All of the Music Center’s luxurious amenities are available exclusively through Patina Catering. These professionals will orchestrate your event with the same expertise that’s made them the favorite vendor of blockbuster film premieres, the Governor’s Ball, and the L.A. Opera. Patina’s attention to detail, personal touches and stylish flair are a perfect match for the Music Center’s opulent event spaces.
