When people drive past the Mill Rose Inn, they often come to a dead stop in front of it, overwhelmed by the beauty of the gardens they see before them. The flowers are so big, it’s hard to believe they’re real, and the gorgeous colors rival those in a painting by Monet. The Mill Rose Inn is the creation of owners Eve and Terry Baldwin, who clearly have a passion for flowers, not to mention degrees in horticulture. They’ve tended their gardens for thirty years, replanting monthly to make sure there’s a year-round show, and the result is floral displays magnificent enough to appear in Sunset Magazine and many commercials.

With visual splendor like this, it’s no wonder the Inn has been voted the best place to get married in Half Moon Bay. But you’ll find that this romantic English country garden setting has far more to offer than flowers. A Four Diamond Award winner, its décor and service are equally noteworthy. The interior atmosphere is one of classic European elegance. The parlor is warm and welcoming, with rich colors and appointments that reflect attention to detail. The library, a small jewel of a room, features a beautifully painted fireplace and a window alcove overlooking the colorful gardens. In the dining room, two walls of French doors open onto both gardens, allowing a comfortable flow outdoors.

Intimate weddings and receptions are held in the private flagstone courtyard, shaded by a large, handsome maple tree and framed by a profusion of sensational floral displays. A rose-covered gazebo, arched arbor and cascading fountains add to the garden tapestry by day, and the space sparkles at night with thousands of tiny white lights.

If you’re planning an overnight stay (and of course you’ll want to), the honeymoon suites have private entrances and are filled with fine antiques, luxurious feather beds, and extravagant floral arrangements. You’ll also find a hand-painted fireplace and double whirlpool tub in each one.

Even though the setting may make you feel as though you’d traveled abroad, the Mill Rose Inn is only 30 minutes south of San Francisco. While you’re here, pay a visit to the shops, art galleries and restaurants of Half Moon Bay’s historic business district, and enjoy the area’s recreational activities, including horseback riding on the beach, hiking in redwood forests, wine tasting or a game of golf at one of the local golf courses overlooking the Pacific.

And if all this weren’t enchanting enough, the Baldwins have put together an affordable wedding package that takes care of all your planning needs under one roof. It includes a honeymoon suite and guestrooms, catering, flowers and more. They even specialize in "last minute" weddings, for impetuous couples. Whatever type of wedding you have, Eve will handle all the details, so that you can completely relax. She’ll also assist with other local accommodations and activities for your out-of-town guests. Whether you’re coming to the Inn for a wedding, retreat or conference, you’ll appreciate the fact that only one event per day is allowed, so that the staff can provide plenty of personal attention and give you the first-rate experience you deserve.

CEREMONY CAPACITY: Outdoors, the garden holds up to 150 guests. Indoors the site holds up to 30.

EVENT/RECEPTION CAPACITY: The Inn accommodates 150 guests in gardens and the interconnecting banquet room combined.

MEETING CAPACITY: The conference room holds 22 seated guests.

Fees & Deposits

Rental fees range $7,000–7,500 for a wedding of up to 150 guests. In addition, an $800 refundable security deposit is due. During the week, affordable packages include one eight-hour wedding per day (a choice of day or evening schedule), the entire inn with all rooms and a full champagne breakfast for all overnight guests. All setup and clean up is provided, plus all tables and chairs, full event supervision and coordination from the in-house coordinator. You can work from their preferred list of vendors or bring your own. The food and beverage sales taxes and service charges are payable one moth prior to the event.

For business functions, memorial services and other special events call for quotes.
