If you’ve ever heard the expression “you can’t have it all,” don’t believe it. Because whether you want a wedding at the beach, a sophisticated ballroom ambiance, a stylish outdoor setting or a heart-stopping view, you’ll find every one of these options at the Marina del Rey Marriott.

Beautifully situated in the lively beach town of Marina del Rey, this hotel proves that the adage, “location, location, location” applies to selecting a wedding venue as well as buying real estate. The picture-postcard scene of the sailboat-filled marina, coupled with the cool breezes coming off Mother’s Beach, provides an immediate antidote to city stress even before you enter the hotel. Inside the recently remodeled lobby (which beguiles you with its heavenly floral scent), the interplay of sunset orange tones and cobalt blue fire-glazed wall sculptures adds a modern twist to a beach palette. Add in hip, conversation-friendly seating arrangements with cubist tables and a mosaic-tiled bar and this seaside milieu takes on a decidedly chic vibe.

Straight ahead, a wall of glass reveals Glow, one of the country’s most highly acclaimed outdoor lounges. Available for small receptions, its main space is filled with comfy loveseats in warm sand hues, and punctuated with glass-enclosed fireplaces, flames licking up from beds of rock. Gold-swirled glass lanterns intensify the “magic moment” light as day fades into evening. At one end, an exotic gazebo draped in gauzy crimson fabric would make a dramatic spot for a sweetheart table, serenaded by the soothing sounds of the verdigris copper water wall right beside it.

Indoor ceremonies and receptions are held in either of the Marriott’s two contemporary banquet rooms: the Promenade Room, which is ideal for intimate celebrations; and the grand California Ballroom, which can be divided into sections. If you’d like to exchange vows on the beach, they’ll help you obtain necessary permits and handle the setup. Afterwards, it’s just a short walk back inside to one of the banquet rooms for dining and dancing.

However, if you want to pull out all the stops, go right to the top, as in the private penthouse floor with its exclusive Bayview Ballroom. Ride the elevator to the ninth floor and take the graceful staircase to the penthouse (there’s also a private elevator that goes directly up). The glass-walled foyer opens out to a wraparound patio and a mesmerizing view. The nearly 360-degree vista takes in an astonishing panorama of the best of LA., from the Pacific Ocean and Malibu, across the Westside with the mountains behind it, to the Hollywood sign and over to downtown then back around to the marina and the ocean. Ceremonies are often held on the patio overlooking the marina or, for a true top-of-the-world experience, you can say “I do” on the hotel’s helipad then serve cocktails on that fabulous patio. The elegant Ballroom wisely keeps adornments to a minimum, with spot lighting rather than chandeliers, so as not to block that amazing scene outside as it transitions from the sun setting over the ocean to the twinkling lights of the city and marina. Add in award-winning dining and an attentive staff and you’ll realize that you can, indeed, have it all.

CEREMONY CAPACITY: The Glow Lounge holds 225 seated, and the Marina Beach holds 300 seated or standing guests. The Bayview Patio holds 100 seated in conjunction with the Bayview Reception Room. The Helicopter Landing Pad holds up to 300 seated guests.

EVENT/RECEPTION CAPACITY: The Bayview Room holds 240 seated (with dance floor), 290 standing. The California Ballroom holds 350 seated with dance floor, or 650 standing guests; the Promenade Room holds 100 seated with dance floor or 150 standing guests.

MEETING CAPACITY: Several rooms hold 90–700 seated guests.

Fees & Deposits

For weddings, 25% of the event total is required as a nonrefundable deposit to hold your date. There are ceremony setup fees for each area, call for specific pricing. Complete wedding packages are available starting at $120/person. Tax, a 22% service charge and alcohol are additional. The hotel also allows kosher catering; call for details.

For corporate functions or meetings, rates vary depending on the event; call for more detailed information. Meeting spaces have state-of-the-art in-house audiovisual services, and high-speed internet access is available.
