Marina City Club

Description

Rising up near the water’s edge, the distinctive curved towers of the Marina City Club keep watch over the marina like a band of giant sentries. Residents of this exclusive condominium complex enjoy unbeatable marina views and the use of several event spaces that take full advantage of them. And as luck would have it, non-residents are invited to share in their good fortune.

The Third Floor is where most celebrations take place, and on weekends you have the entire floor to yourself. The space is loosely divided into two rooms that flow into each other and, of course, face the marina.

The Nautilus Room, the larger of the two, has several unique features. A slanted wall of glass, reminiscent of those wonderful New York City or Paris penthouse windows, provides visual access to the marina and plenty of light. A more subtle glow comes from a trio of large, unusual light fixtures overhead; each one conceals its recessed lighting in a series of concentric circular brass-lined coffers. In the center of the room, a circular black marble bar is not only convenient for serving cocktails, it also makes a chic buffet table. An abundance of palms and other trees add softness and color, while bands of gleaming brass in the lighting and around support pillars create a touch of glamour. You can use the room’s existing square tables and comfortable black lacquer chairs, or have Club staff replace them with round tables and banquet chairs; off-white chair covers are an elegant option.

The smaller Galaxy Room is custom-made for cocktails and dancing. There’s a platform for the band, a spacious parquet dance floor and a raised, carpeted dining area for sampling hors d’oeuvres and champagne. If you like, hire a pianist to play during cocktails on the baby grand piano in the corner. This room is also a popular spot for ceremonies. The bride and groom stand under a flower-festooned gazebo or chuppah on the band platform in front of floor-to-ceiling glass, while their guests look on from the parquet floor and the seating area just behind it. During the day, natural light flows in through the windows; at night the "city" of boats bobbing in the marina provide their own mini-light show.

Another option for intimate affairs is the Topside Room, once the original restaurant for the Club. Here again you have a spectacular marina view—this time through a wall of 25-foot-high windows. Clipper ship rigging at the entrance and warm mahogany paneling bring a bit of maritime spirit inside.

A few more things that couples planning their wedding should know: the facility’s health club, beauty salon, dressing rooms and other services are at your disposal. If your vehicle of choice is a boat, the Club Dock Master will provide a Club slip so that you can sail in and out of the marina at your convenience.

All of the Marina City Club’s event spaces can be reserved for private parties, as well as for corporate retreats, seminars, and training. Over the past 30 years, the Club has hosted hundreds of wedding receptions, and they have extensive experience in organizing theme parties such as a Casino Night, Mardi Gras, Texas Barbecue and Comedy Night. Shuttle service can be arranged to and from the L.A. Airport (a 15-minute drive), and attractions like Venice Beach, Oceanfront Walk and the 3rd Street Promenade are just minutes away. No wonder the residents love living at the Marina City Club—they have everything they could possibly want right here.
