Southern California’s upscale coastal community of Manhattan Beach is cool… cool, as in trendy and hip, as in designer sunglasses, fashionable bistros, and miles of roller blade trails… cool, as in refreshing ocean breezes, bodysurfing, and the provocative fragrance of seashells… cool, as in the Manhattan Beach Marriott.

The interior of this contemporary resort hotel seems inspired by a modern sandcastle, like those found along the nearby shore. Crafted in marble and stone, the magnificent lobby boasts sleek columns and mottled marble floors that glisten in the diffused light from lofty windows and skylights. Tropical floral displays, exotic accents, and furnishings in lively hues of raspberry and gold add flashes of color to the polished space.

A balm for the senses is the tranquil look and sound of rushing water. In the center of the lobby an elaborate multi-tiered waterfall festooned with luxuriant foliage cascades into a blue pool in the Garden Terrace Foyer below. Twin marble staircases descend on either side of the waterfall, merging at a central landing in front of it before continuing downward. The Foyer adjoins the outdoor Garden Terrace, where wedding ceremonies are held, and as the bride makes her way down the dramatic staircase a faint mist caresses her cheek.

At the center of the cobbled Garden Terrace a rectangular water feature flows out into a small lake below, and the wedding arch frames the couple against a picturesque backdrop. The hotel overlooks the Manhattan Beach Marriott golf course, so from the expansive terrace everyone is treated to the fairways’ verdant panorama. Out on the greens a pond with a petite footbridge and quaint grotto attracts the area’s wildlife. This fresh, serene atmosphere feels more like an exclusive country club than a hotel—just one of the reasons weddings are so popular here.

For the reception choose from several event spaces, each with its own distinctive attractions. The Terrace Ballroom and Foyer are right on the Garden Level, and windows look out to the terrace or the turquoise pool. “Casual Resort” is the theme of the Manhattan Ballroom. Plantation ferns brighten the corners, and plush carpeting in tropical colors adorns both the Ballroom and the adjacent Prefunction Area. This is a terrific space for the cocktail hour, with a row of floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook the Garden Terrace and golf course. For an intimate and utterly private affair, consider reserving the Parkview. Its foyer features greenery overflowing from long planters, and picture windows that showcase the rolling fairways. The room has hand-blown Murano glass chandeliers, attractive artwork, and a crisp uncluttered look.

The Marriott’s wedding planners have put together comprehensive packages that even include a made-to-order cake and those (usually hidden) tax and service charges. Ah, lucky you—starting at $120 per person, you can have a fabulous experience here, complete with all the amenities and exceptional service. And Manhattan Beach Marriott’s Very Cool Ambiance? CEREMONY CAPACITY: The Terrace holds up to 300 guests, the Manhattan Ballroom up to 900 seated guests.

Fees & Deposits

One third of the estimated event total is required to reserve your date; another third is due 90 days prior to the event and the balance is due 45 days prior. Wedding packages run $120–145/person and include the first hour of cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, a wedding cake, champagne toast, 4-course meal, choice of linens, and a complimentary suite for the bridal couple. Alcohol is additional. A ceremony fee of $1,200 for daytimes or $1,500 for evenings is additional.

For other types of events, lunches range $26–40/person, dinners $40–51/person. Room rental fees may apply, depending on food and beverage minimums.
