Lazy Z Resort

Description

Just minutes from downtown Twain Harte in the Sierra Gold County, the Lazy Z Resort is a captivating place for weddings, special events and meetings. This 40-acre property has been family-owned and operated since the 1950s, which accounts in part for the warm welcome extended to all guests.

The focal point of the facility is a remarkable freeform water feature. Framed by greenery and with waterfalls at both ends, it’s designed to resemble one of the small sparkling blue lakes you see throughout the mountains. Some couples get married at this pale aqua "pool," while others say their vows beneath a giant cedar tree on the lawn near the pool. Another ceremony option is the reception area itself, also just steps from the pool. All three locations are surrounded by a natural landscape of cedars, pines, oaks and birch trees.

Outdoor receptions (from informal to black-tie) and meetings are most often held in the reception area, which is bordered by rocks and waterfalls. For weddings, the bridal party presides over the festivities from the head table, set up on a trellised dais. Buffets are served from the clubhouse porch nearby, and an adjacent thatched-roof cabana bar dispenses libations throughout your event. At night, tiki torches add a romantic glow and the trees sparkle with little lights. Place your DJ next to the pool (or a live ensemble under the covered bandstand) and invite everyone onto the dance floor under the stars.

More casual celebrations, barbecues and rehearsal dinners take place at "Zeke’s Cantina," a western-themed social area near a small pond. Order a drink at the old-fashioned cedar-slab bar, then stroll through the building and enjoy all the antiques and curios of days gone by. Dine outdoors under the stars, then sit around an open fire and socialize with your friends and family. For a small additional fee you can even have a Wild West gunfight re-enactment.

The Clubhouse is multipurpose: it hosts indoor meetings and parties that continue after 9:30pm. In addition to two large-screen televisions and a library upstairs, it has a game room with a pool table downstairs. The high pine ceiling and two walls of windows with a view of the treetops bring the woodsy atmosphere inside. A rock fireplace framed by heavy cedar timbers and a massive cedar bar add to the "in the mountains" feeling.

At the end of the day, you and your guests don’t have far to go for a good night’s sleep, with all twelve cabins and cottages within walking distance of the pool, dining and dancing areas. The six cabins included in the weekend wedding package feature kitchens, fireplaces, beamed pine ceilings, private decks with barbecues and country-style décor—and all have lovely forest views.

When you take over the resort for the entire weekend (Friday check-in to Sunday checkout), you give your family and friends an opportunity to spend time together in a beautiful and relaxing environment. You’ll be able to hang out in the hot tub at the edge of the pool, soak up some sun, and toss a few horseshoes. Like movie stars, sports figures and other notables who come to Lazy Z Resort, you’ll succumb to the peaceful beauty of this alpine paradise.
