Description
In the heart of Temecula wine country is a private ten-acre estate, where rose bushes scent the air and a wonderful variety of trees form shady groves around a serene lake, known for its spectacular nighttime display: “Fountains of Fire and Water.” The owners are continually planting more trees and flowers, and over time their creation, Oak Meadows, has become a welcoming oasis. While this serene, almost Edenic place is terrific for concerts, retreats and reunions, it’s utterly romantic for weddings. Most couples recite their vows here under a wrought-iron gazebo or an arch on a grassy peninsula that juts out into the lake. Ornate lamps and flowers edge the ceremony space, and stately pepper trees form a sheltering backdrop. Just across the lake a waterfall cascades down large rocks.
Post-ceremony cocktails are usually hosted under a nearby arbor and on its adjoining lawn. The large fireplace at one end of the lawn has a broad stone apron that easily serves as a dance floor. Strings of lights dangle from the arbor and wrap around the trees. At night, there are many “oohs” and “ahhs” when the bulbs come to life, and even more when the fountains light up in a fiery dance.
Steps away from the arbor, the reception lawn is a particularly comfortable spot as Temecula’s famous late afternoon breeze begins to stir. Caterers enjoy having a prep room close to it, so keeping food coming fast and fresh is a snap. The lawn, which can be canopied, has lines of lights streaming above it and along the low wooden fence that borders it. With a bar and grill tucked in one corner, there’s plenty of room for setting up tables and chairs.
Conveniences abound in the bride’s room, including air conditioning, full-length mirrors, mirrored makeup seating, kitchenette, refrigerator, plasma TV, fireplace and shower. Outside, her private patio is enclosed by wisteria-clad wood lattice walls. There’s a space for serving hors d’oeuvres and wine, as well as a fire pit, grill, and shaded tables and chairs. A popular tradition at Oak Meadows is for the bride to emerge from her dressing room, walk across a small bridge with a rock waterfall, and step into a horse-drawn carriage that takes her to the lakeside ceremony site.
A grassy knoll behind the lake is a favorite spot for photos. Pepper and black gum trees shade this pleasant green rise, which is bordered by a picturesque split-rail fence that zig-zags between the lawn and flower beds.
Oak Meadows has a distinct “ranch feel,” but with all the rough edges smoothed away. What remains is a beautiful, amenity-rich place that immediately captures the fancy of almost everybody. Just take a stroll from the parking lot down the terraced stairway to your first dazzling lake view to see why.
