Description

The beaches of La Jolla are known all over the world for their stunning beauty. One of the town’s most treasured spots is La Jolla Cove, where a manicured greenbelt overlooking the sparkling Pacific gives a panoramic view of San Diego’s scenic coastline.

High above this coastal jewel is the Rooftop Terrace of the La Jolla Cove Suites hotel. From this spacious outdoor venue, you experience the unspoiled Southern California coast in a way that delights all the senses: breathtaking vistas, tangy ocean breezes, the sound of waves tumbling onto the shore and the warm kiss of the sun.

The 12,000-square-foot Terrace is like a grand blank canvas on which you can paint your own event. There are very few restrictions, and a dedicated staff to help you design the space to suit your needs. Use tents or lattice walls to create intimate "rooms," or take advantage of the openness for a big-party feel. At night built-in lamps resembling old-fashioned streetlights provide soft romantic lighting. Decorating the lampposts and terrace railings with flowers and fabric in the colors of your choice is an excellent way to personalize the site for your event. You’re also free to choose your own caterer, cake maker and other service providers.

Guests arrive via the elevator, which opens into the Solarium, a glass-enclosed room that serves as a lobby for rooftop events. This is the perfect place for the guest book and place card tables, and perhaps poster-size photos of the bride and groom displayed on easels.

Couples usually say their vows under an arch or chuppah set in the terrace’s northwest corner, the best vantage point to view the coastal cliffs and picturesque hillsides of San Diego. After the ceremony, guests retreat to the Solarium or the south side of the roof for cocktails and conversation, while reception tables are set up and the bridal party goes downstairs for photos on the beach or on the bluffs overlooking the cove. As day turns to evening, the sun sets in a blaze of color over the Pacific, providing a gorgeous backdrop to the festivities.

A wedding at La Jolla Cove Suites also affords out-of-town guests a chance to visit one of California’s vacation hot spots and stay in an oceanview apartment-style suite at a group discount depending on the season. The beachfront hotel is just a short stroll from Downtown La Jolla, a shopping district with galleries and upscale boutiques that’s often compared to Rodeo Drive. A wealth of casual and fine-dining options, jazz and piano bars, nightclubs and a comedy club all are within walking distance. For those more interested in the area’s natural gifts, the hotel is close to several choice snorkeling points and steps from a beach where sea lions often gather. Visitors can also tour the coastal caves just a block away.

CEREMONY, EVENT/RECEPTION & MEETING CAPACITY: The location holds 225 seated or standing guests on the outdoor Terrace, including indoor seating for up to 75 guests.

Fees & Deposits

A $1,250 deposit is required to reserve your date. The balance is due 60 days prior to the event. Rental fees range $2,500–4,500 depending on the date of event and number of suites booked.
