Description

Without worries about passports or destination wedding details, a bride can offer her entire wedding party a taste of warm Italian hospitality and authentic regional cuisine when she arranges a celebration with the catering team at Il Fornaio. For both onsite and offsite festivities, the award-winning operation is known for creatively prepared fare based on recipes gleaned from traditional Italian trattorias, using premium-quality domestic and imported ingredients.

Set in the heart of Irvine’s sophisticated business district, the upscale restaurant is a weekday favorite of executives doing deals over aromatic pastas and flavorful grilled entrées prepared in the venue’s wood-burning rotisserie. But signs of the work week evaporate on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, when weddings are held on an emerald lawn next to a glistening manmade lake, with swanky Lakeshore Towers as a cosmopolitan backdrop.

For onsite events, an ironwork arch on the outdoor spread adjacent to the restaurant’s bocce ball court is an ideal spot for saying your vows. After the ceremony, before stepping into the sunlit interior of the rotunda, guests can sample bite-size pizzete, bruschetta al pomodoro, succulent scallops wrapped in pancetta, Tuscan melon in prosciutto and other silver-plated antipasti on the outdoor patio fronting the restaurant. Inside the main dining room, painted Italian scenes, ceramic biscotti jars, giant bottles of premium vintages and the flame-filled drama of an exhibition kitchen create a European ambiance.

Showcased by natural light streaming through a retractable roof, the core of the rotunda is a roomy area for dancing. Around the perimeter, there’s ample seating for guests at larger events. Alternatively, a bride can opt to host a reception or rehearsal dinner in one of several private dining rooms. Overlooking the lake and outdoor fountains, the wood-floored Sala del Lago provides an intimate setting warmed by a wood-burning oven and high brick ceilings. Double doors connect it to the more spartan Venezia room, equipped with a pull-down screen should you wish to share childhood or dating memories with guests. Two heated, adjacent outdoor patios are perfect for al fresco mingling and onsite photography.

The same authentic fare and attentive service by white-jacketed waiters offered in the restaurant also is available offsite, for backyard weddings or celebrations at other venues anywhere in California. Depending on a bride’s preferences, the Il Fornaio team can assist with locations, menus and full wedding coordination. Offsite service levels range from food preparation at the venue of choice, where transported working ovens can transform any kitchen into an Italian cucina, to refrigerated truck transportation for pre-prepped fare that will be finished trattoria-style just prior to your event.

No matter which option she chooses, a bride can enjoy the prospect of celebrating anniversaries and other occasions down the road at any of 23 Il Fornaio restaurants throughout the U.S. Or, she might choose to whisk her new spouse off to where Il Fornaio—which means “the baker” in Italian—got its start as a baking school outside Milan in 1972. With 2,500 bakeries throughout Italy, Il Fornaio’s artisans continue the practice of traditional bread-making to this day.
