Description
If, as American author Clarence Day observed, “The world of books is the most remarkable creation of man,” then what better place to house them than in another of man’s remarkable creations, the Huntington Beach Library and Cultural Center. Set in a 350-acre park between the San Diego Freeway and Pacific Coast Highway and showcased by surrounding fountains and pools, the center incorporates the stunning Central Library, designed by famed modernist architect Richard Neutra and his son Dion. Much more than a haven for bibliophiles, it offers a world of resources for weddings, parties and meetings. For couples having their reception here, there are multiple private and semi-private areas for staging an event that will reflect your signature style. If you come into the Library via the Theater entrance, you pass through the Rotunda lobby, adorned with decorative sconces and a chandelier. From here, guests have easy access to the adjacent banquet facilities. Most weddings take place in the largest banquet room, which features an acoustic convex wall to enhance your musical entertainment. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking a pool with fountains make this room the perfect setting for buffets and guest seating.
The main entrance to the Library leads to one of the venue’s most striking features, a spiral ramp flanked by soaring columns topped with half-spheres from which water cascades into coin-filled pools below. By special arrangement, you can walk down the winding incline as a dramatic beginning to your reception or ceremony. After descending the ramp, meet your groom under an arch or ethnic chuppah on a bridge fronting floor-to-ceiling windows with a view of an outdoor fountain. Other areas you can reserve by special arrangement are a lower-level patio surrounding two 30-year-old fiddle-leaf fig trees, and several reading decks, any of which is ideal for an elegant buffet or dinner party.
In addition, changing rooms are available for the wedding party, among them the airy Bride’s Room, where floor-to-ceiling windows frame a serene view of towering eucalyptus trees. To calm jangled nerves, a light lunch of finger sandwiches, strawberries and a bit of bubbly can be arranged through the on-site caterer, One Fine Blend.
Whatever type of event you’re hosting at the Huntington Beach Library and Cultural Center, you have the option of bringing in your own caterer (there’s a full catering kitchen) or taking advantage of the on-site catering service. A wide range of wedding amenities are available for rental, including arches, plant stands, lattice dividers, audiovisual equipment and dance floors. Whether you arrange for a valet or not, there are acres of free parking. Perhaps best of all, you can savor the satisfaction of knowing you’ve helped support an organization that brings the world of books and much more to library patrons of all ages.
