Hollywood Hotel

Description

For decades untold numbers of people have been flocking to Hollywood to make their dreams come true. Today, as old tinsel town glamour mixes with an "au courant" edge, the city that’s always reinventing itself is experiencing a renaissance. And the Hollywood Hotel, undergoing its own metamorphosis after a $2 million renovation, offers a quiet haven at the nexus of trendy Los Feliz and pricey Beachwood Canyon.

From Vermont Avenue, a main thoroughfare buzzing with hip energy and restoration activity, enter the hotel’s cool pink-and-peach lobby with its decorative Art Deco fountain.

The hotel is built around a center courtyard, which serves as the site for wedding ceremonies held here. While you and your bridal party get ready in your complimentary wedding night suite (equipped with Jacuzzi), your guests will be shown to the rectangular open air space. A large stone fountain greets them as they find their seats on either side of the long aisle. Towards the front of the courtyard, a three-tiered flagstone platform forms a natural altar where you and your groom will exchange vows. (Don’t be surprised if you have more admiring well-wishers than you expected, since this space is surrounded by the iron-railed balconies of the guestrooms above.)

Once you’ve tied the knot, you and your guests will be ushered back inside where you can take the lobby elevator down one level to the newly refurbished restaurant and event facility. Soft lighting, rich cherry wood and opaque glass sconces set a tone of Italianesque luxury. This feeling is enhanced by the marble floors and Venetian glass chandeliers, elements that reveal the care that went into the hotel’s redesign. Your cocktail reception can be set up in The Foyer on your right, with its artfully inlaid marble floor bordered with custom mosaics. Pinkish peach faux finish walls enhance the décor.

Curved archways lead down a wainscoted hall with several sets of double doors opening into the Main Ballroom. Lush green and gold carpeting is the perfect counterpoint to the unique and dramatic ceiling design, a series of white shadowboxes that resemble wooden window frames. Peeking through from above are hand painted clouds against a blue background, designed by the very same artist who did The Venetian hotel in Las Vegas. As your eye is drawn upward, it’s as if you’re looking at the sky, which gives the room a nice, airy ambiance. Once the music starts, however, you’ll probably be looking down, since the illuminated wooden dance floor has lights that flicker and pulse to the beat of each song.

The hotel, which hosts wedding celebrations for virtually every ethnic group in Los Angeles, handles all catering, but will allow you to bring in your own ethnic specialty foods to make your guests feel at home. And to make them feel even more comfortable, they offer a special price on overnight accommodations that includes a complimentary breakfast. The Hollywood Hotel can’t make your dreams of movie stardom come true, but it can certainly set the stage for a terrific wedding day.
