Hilton San Diego Resort and Spa

Description

If your idea of the ultimate wedding is beachside in the South of France, save yourself the jet lag and instead tie the knot at the lavish Hilton San Diego Resort and Spa on the shores of gorgeous Mission Bay. Set in the midst of over 4,600 acres of sandy bayfronts and secluded islands that comprise the Mission Bay Park and Aquatic Preserve, the Hilton San Diego Resort and Spa has all the sunny charm of a Mediterranean getaway. The hotel welcomes you with Old World style, from the tile roofs to the verdigris railings and fixtures. Terracotta-tile pathways wind through a multitude of colorful flowers, towering palms, and lushly landscaped lawns and gardens. But if there is a theme to this resort, it’s water, and it’s everywhere. Footbridges and flagstone pathways meander over babbling brooks and koi ponds fringed with water lilies, lacy ferns, and dynamic rock formations.

Brides can incorporate a water motif into their wedding by staging their ceremony in the Garden by the Bay, a semi-private expanse of grass just a few steps from the bay. The couple says their vows in front of a white gazebo, which is adorned with pastel bougainvillea and framed by the panorama of Mission Bay. Balmy sea breezes waft a faint aroma of seashells over the guests, who savor the glorious view from their seats on the lawn. For brides who long to feel the sand between their toes, the Hilton will arrange a ceremony right on the beach. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres can be served in the adjacent garden area, and as the sun dips below the horizon, beach campfires add warmth and atmosphere.

Then bring the party inside to the resort’s gracious banquet center, decorated with a floral design of azure blue and gold that perfectly complements the landscape of sun and sea. Guests sip champagne in the beautiful Foyer, bedecked with paintings reminiscent of Matisse and Renoir and plush carpets with colors straight from Gauguin’s Polynesian idyll. Reception options include the International Ballroom, a vast space for up to 1,000 that can be divided into smaller suites, each named for a fetching Mediterranean locale. Alternatively, choose the breezy Terrazza Ballroom, whose creamy walls are enlivened by impressionistic artwork. Multipaned windows and French doors along one side provide easy access to the Terrazza’s lovely tiled patio, which overlooks the hotel’s verdant landscape. After the last dance, the bride and groom continue the romance in their complimentary Deluxe Accommodations.

Hilton’s event professionals will expertly attend to the details of your celebration, but to ensure that you’re relaxed and radiant, treat yourself to some pre-event pampering at the resort’s full-service salon, Essence—The Spa on Mission Bay. While you’re unwinding with a day of massage and facials, your guests can entertain themselves with an array of on-site activities. From water sports such as kayaking, windsurfing and Scuba diving, to land-based fun like tennis, volleyball and golf, the Hilton really has it all. They even boast their own private dock, and it’s not uncommon for an adventurous wedding party to make their arrival via boat. Ensconced in this natural paradise, one would never guess that the resort is only ten minutes from San Diego’s main attractions, another reason this resort is an ideal venue for a destination event. One more perk: SeaWorld, directly across the bay, stages a nightly fireworks display above the still evening waters, lending a truly festive finale to your celebration.
