Special Offers

Description

With its Mediterranean-inspired façade, urns full of lush plants, and a babbling terracotta fountain, the Grandview Pavilion seems far removed from the commotion of city life. And in a way it is, situated in Alameda, the East Bay’s most unassuming town. Separated from Oakland by a tunnel and a series of bridges, this quiet island community seems like a throwback to a friendlier, less complicated time.

The Pavilion’s coral exterior, with its red-tiled roof and welcoming arches, gives way to an expansive interior. In what was once the Alameda Golf Course Clubhouse, the owners have completed an extensive renovation and the results couldn’t be better suited to weddings and other special events. Creamy white walls, a hand-laid cherrywood dance floor and plush carpeting contribute to a warm ambiance. The brushed copper bar and copper chandeliers suspended from the high ceilings add a contemporary feel. The Pavilion lends itself to both buffet and formal dinners, with ample room for dancing. During the day a wall of almost floor-to-ceiling windows reveals sweeping views of the golf course, making guests feel as though there’s nothing between them and the tree-dotted fairways.

Just off the broad banquet area there’s a patio full of flourishing greenery where most ceremonies are held. Seated guests watch the bride and groom say "I do" beneath an arched trellis (which most brides adorn with copious amounts of flowers). A large white carpet can be rolled out, and speakers and microphones set up to ensure that everyone hears the couple’s heartfelt words.

When the party moves back inside, high-tech audiovisual capabilities abound. Speakers can project a personal music selection into every crevice of the Grandview Pavilion, and an LCD screen enables party-throwers to show videos, DVDs or still photos during their event. Plus, the DJ booth exists behind a retractable mirror, allowing for maximum space on the dance floor without the clutter of wires and cables.

These amenities set the Grandview Pavilion apart, and are the direct result of the owner’s 23 years in the on-site catering business. During that time, he saw hundreds of weddings and other celebrations, and took note of what makes the ideal venue. When he spotted the Grandview Pavilion, he realized it had great potential. For example, it has a spacious women’s bathroom with a lavish lounge that offers plenty of room for a bride and her party to spread out as they get ready. The circular driveway makes for convenient arrival and departure, plus parking here is ample and free. There’s even a gorgeous plot of blooming flowers and native plants across the street, where most wedding parties take their photos.

All of these features make the Grandview especially appealing for weddings, but the facility works equally well for corporate events, bar mitzvahs, anniversaries and retirement parties. And although this scenic spot is a relative newcomer to East Bay event sites, its tastefully transformed interior and the owner’s meticulous attention to detail will make it a popular special event location in the years to come.
