Description
If you’re like most people, you probably picture Squaw Valley as a winter wonderland, blanketed with snow and dotted with agile skiers plying the slopes. Yet the valley is equally lovely during the summer months, when the balmy weather inspires a variety of outdoor amusements: hiking, horseback riding, golf, tennis, theater, swimming and mountain biking for starters. If you’ve come to Squaw Valley to get married, then one of the finest places to take advantage of its seasonal charms is historic Christy Lodge and its on-site restaurant, Graham’s.
Hewn from the wilderness over 70 years ago as the valley’s first home, Christy Lodge now shares its scenic grounds with Graham’s. Next to the lodge, an expansive lawn makes a pretty setting for alpine wedding ceremonies. This often-sunny spot, bordered by flowers and tall pines on one end, affords guests a breathtaking vista of towering, tree-studded mountains embracing a lush green valley. The roomiest event site at Graham’s, the lawn can also be tented to accommodate a lavish reception. A large redwood deck adjacent to the lodge and restaurant is already topped by an awning and enclosed in glass. With heaters for cool nights, it’s perfect for post-event cocktails, a small reception or dancing.
Then there’s the restaurant itself, a local dining favorite. With its peaked pine ceiling and fireplaces, Graham’s is both welcoming and romantic, evoking the cozy refinement of an upscale mountain lodge. Skylights and picture windows fill the room with soft, ambient light all afternoon; at night, firelight and candlelight cast their own warm glow. Dining patrons and small gatherings are served in the Valley View and Mountain View rooms, each with its own fireplace and picture-worthy panoramas. A changing art display on the walls and white table linens are sophisticated complements to the interior’s rustic elements. Graham’s also has a full bar with a lounge that’s available for pre-event mingling. The centerpiece of the lounge is a stunning floor-to-ceiling river rock fireplace that was hand-built by the original owners and makes an impressive backdrop for intimate winter ceremonies.
When we visited Graham’s it was filled with locals and Tahoe regulars who know where to go for a hearty, enticing meal. The menu features a unique blend of California Cuisine influenced by Old World Mediterranean recipes. We gladly yielded to culinary temptation and relished every moment of our dining experience, from appetizer to dessert. The fresh ingredients were deliciously prepared, and the staff was both friendly and knowledgeable. For your event, they’ll help you choose just the right vintages from their award-winning wine list, which boasts over 900 domestic and international selections. (Graham’s also provides off-site catering, and if you prefer, they can even arrange the rental of a private lakefront or riverfront home for your wedding.)
After you and your guests have enjoyed the satisfying cuisine, you can retire to your accommodations at Christy Lodge, only a few steps away. There are six pleasantly decorated guestrooms with private baths and down comforters to keep you snug.
Surrounded by forested peaks, ski slopes and a golf course, this landmark venue is a scant five miles from Lake Tahoe and within walking distance of the world-class shopping and lodging of the Village at Squaw. Clearly, Graham’s makes it easy to take your vows—and your vacation—in Northern California’s most popular playground.
