Description
Candy-apple red convertibles, palm trees, hip nightclubs and trendy eateries. You can’t get much more L.A. than Santa Monica Boulevard. Randy Newman loves it and Sheryl Crow partied there until the sun came up.But pull off this storied ribbon of road just east of Interstate 405 in West Los Angeles and you’ll wonder if you’ve been plopped down on the Left Bank in Paris. With deep-red leather banquettes, dark wood floors and furnishings, etched-glass partitions and reproductions of vintage Parisian photos and posters, French 75 Century City doesn’t so much suggest a Parisian bistro as envelop you in its sumptuous ambiance.
Located in the tony Westfield Century City Mall, French 75 is part of the Newport Beach, California-based family of restaurants known as Culinary Adventures. The design and menu—which leans toward French classics such as coq au vin, short ribs à la Bourguignon, and crêpes in truffle sauce—are the creation of David Wilhelm, Culinary Adventures’ CEO and president. Wilhelm fell in love with the look and feel of the Parisian bistro as a college student, and returned to this motif when he started opening his own brasserie-inspired eateries in Southern California many years later.
A wedding reception here begins with one of French 75’s signature pink bubblies, served on a patio with bistro tables and wood-and-cane chairs. This outdoor space, one level up from the street, usually looks out on the hum of mall activity and glass-and-steel office towers. But for weddings, it can be closed off with flower-bedecked latticework.
After libations, it’s off to the dining room for a sit-down meal prepared by French 75’s kitchen, where the steaks are seared over high heat in blue-steel pans like those used in 17th-century France. The dining room is large and open, and despite its wood pillars guests can easily see one another. Hand-blown chandelier globes are beautifully speckled with myriad colors, and amber bulbs flatter everyone. As the meal ends, the music starts in the bar area, where a backlit scarlet curtain behind the liquor shelves imbues the space with an ever-so-sultry red glow.
French 75 is ideal for couples not inclined to break the bank. While management prefers to close the restaurant to the public for wedding parties, the cost will still compare quite favorably with that of many hotel weddings. Keep in mind that the amenities of a luxury hotel are nearby: the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza is just across the street and the InterContinental Los Angeles Century City is a short taxi ride away. Naturally, you’ll want a bed close by if you and your guests are going to party à la Sheryl Crow until the sun comes up on Santa Monica Boulevard!

10% of the estimated event total is required to reserve your date. A portion is due 90 days prior to the event; the balance is due at the conclusion of the event. There are no rental fees. Meals range $45–125/person. Tax, alcohol and a 21% service charge are additional.
