First United Methodist Church of North Hollywood

Description

To add more drama and distinction to your ceremony, get married at the First United Methodist Church of North Hollywood. As you drive up to this Mediterranean-style brick structure, the ornately sculptured door frame at the entrance and the bell tower topped in gold catch your eye. But it’s what’s inside that will really capture your attention.

When you enter the beautiful Sanctuary, you can’t help but let out a little gasp. The space conveys a sense of awe and majesty, of something greater than ourselves. A lofty open-beam A-frame ceiling washed in a soft green contributes to the exalted ambiance. The pews are rich polished wood, and the brick walls impart a feeling of strength and timelessness. The undeniable main attraction, however, is the series of stunning stained glass windows lining the walls. Each pane tells its own story, and catches the light in a way that makes the apostle depicted in it seem alive. It’s no wonder this splendid church is the scene of many television weddings—virtually every couple on "Melrose Place" has tied the knot here!

Another artistic delight is a mahogany carving at the back of the altar, portraying a scene from the Last Supper. It was created in a small Chinese village by a French Missionary and the orphans in his care, as a gift to Mr. Horton, an American who had helped the orphanage. When Horton returned to the U.S., the intriguing piece of art work ended up gracing the altar of First United Methodist.

The Sanctuary can comfortably seat 400 people, but if you’re planning a much more intimate affair, you might prefer the cozier Boyer Chapel. There’s a calm simplicity to this room, whose altar features only a plain gold cross between two slender panes of stained glass. In Boyer Chapel, the bride and groom are the stars, and the audience is closer and more involved in the ceremony.

For an outdoor ceremony option, consider the Courtyard Fountain. Delicate arches of water are surrounded by colorful blooms, and trees and curved stone benches mark the perimeter. Wedding photographers can’t resist using this lovely spot as a backdrop for photos.

If you also want to hold your reception at First United, you can use their Social Hall, complete with proscenium stage, piano, and organ. It’s a simple room that you can style as you choose.

One parishioner hosted her parents’ 50th Wedding Anniversary celebration here, and created a garden atmosphere by bringing in large potted plants and wicker chairs. An accordion door at the rear of the hall opens to an anteroom which can be used as a "kids only" area or to hold gifts. Caterers just love the adjoining full professional kitchen. The Hall also works well for community or corporate meetings and banquets.

First United Methodist welcomes all Christian officiants, and even hosts interfaith ceremonies—the only restriction is against any kind of alcohol. Their three organized and efficient wedding coordinators will do whatever they can to make your wedding successful. When crunch-time comes, you’ll be thankful for their composure and support. For a traditional church wedding ceremony, treat your guests to First United Methodist and make everyone feel special.
