Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn and Spa

Description

As you turn off Sonoma’s main street and into Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn and Spa’s ten acres of trees, manicured lawns and colorful gardens, the abrupt transition from bustling city to quiet retreat takes you by surprise. And once you begin to stroll around the grounds, your surprise turns into delight.

Even the walk to the reception desk is a thoroughly enjoyable experience: a serpentine path flanked by plush lawns leads you beneath the boughs of elm and pine trees, past a tiered circular fountain and into the Inn’s signature pink Spanish-Colonial buildings. Stone and wooden benches along the way give you your first opportunity to just sit for a few moments and take in the peaceful surroundings.

The Inn occupies a site once considered a sacred healing ground by the Native Americans, who discovered the natural underground hot mineral waters here. In 1840, an eccentric San Francisco doctor was the first to develop the hot springs commercially, and in 1895 the young Englishman Captain H.E. Boyes acquired the property and built his own hotel where the current Inn and Spa stand. Boyes Hot Springs became the finest hot mineral water resort in California in the early half of the century, and the facility continues to be one of the most popular hotels in the country. Major renovations in 1980 and 2004, along with numerous updates and enhancements since then, have made the Inn not just a Mecca for those seeking an antidote to stress, but a premier location for all types of special events.

An abundance of lawns are available for ceremonies, cocktail receptions and seated dinners. Among them are the Creekside Lawn, bordered by a creek and encircled by trees; the vast Harvest Lawn, set off by flower beds; and the South Lawn, shaded by beautiful trees. Some of the lawns can be tented for a more intimate outdoor celebration.

Indoor spaces are often used in conjunction with the lawns. For example, you might exchange vows on the Creekside Lawn, then walk over to the Sonoma Valley Room for your reception. This is the Inn’s largest and most dramatic on-site ballroom, with golden walls, a high open-beamed ceiling, and a wood-burning fireplace. French doors open out onto a patio. Smaller dinners are accommodated in the Kenwood Room, whose light mustard walls and wrought-iron fixtures give it a contemporary "Mission" look. The facility’s newest venue, Vintage Hall, is located in the resort’s Sonoma Golf Club. Featuring floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the spectacular 177-acre eighteen-hole championship golf course, it offers the exclusivity of a private club.

Weddings, golf outings, signature spa offerings and private dinners in the resort’s restaurants are all guaranteed highlights. Food at the Inn is given as much attention as your event and your comfort. Fresh regional produce, cheeses and meats are the main ingredients that go into everything, from simple hors d’oeuvres to elegant seated dinners and buffets. The Inn’s staff will oversee every aspect of your celebration, from helping you plan your function, to arranging overnight accommodations. And on top of everything else, guests have access to the Spa’s full range of therapeutic and pampering services to help them to look and feel their best. As one New York critic put it, "Everything about the Inn emphasizes beauty and nurturing" Whether you come here for a wedding, a meeting or an herbal wrap, you’ll leave with a renewed sense of well-being.
