Description
The private garden estate of Eucalyptus Lane is one of those special “feel good” places. Whether they’re sipping champagne by a cheery bonfire, admiring a hummingbird whirring among sunflowers or just basking in the dappled sunlight in one of the sprawling meadows, visitors undoubtedly find themselves wearing relaxed smiles. And no wonder: this newly available event location enfolds all types of gatherings in pastoral contentment—just 5 minutes off the 101 freeway.
Sheltered behind thick groves of coastal redwoods and live oaks along the manicured greens of River Ridge Golf Course, Eucalyptus Lane is both secluded and easily accessible—a Ventura thoroughfare is roughly 50 yards away, yet undetectable from within this delightful enclave. Guests enter via a long gated driveway flanked by rows of namesake Eucalyptus trees. At the end stands a Craftsman-style farmhouse, with a bricked front path and tidy hedges. Originally built in 1942, this landmark home rests on a gentle rise above two sweeping lawns connected by flower, herb and vegetable gardens.
Before exploring the picturesque grounds, however, guests first convene in a neighboring courtyard where star jasmine perfumes the air and a fountain provides a tranquil welcome. From here, it’s just a few steps down to Herb Garden Lawn for the wedding ceremony. Framed by a white wooden pergola entwined with wild roses, bride and groom say their vows against a backdrop of multicolored flora.
The leisurely atmosphere of wine-country chic continues to flourish during the social hour, as guests mingle among potted olive saplings and fruit trees. A weathered birdbath and an aged wheelbarrow planted with colorful blooms lend a vintage motif, and monarch butterflies flutter around an arbor swathed with trumpet vines. The garden plots themselves seem alive with the scents and colors of each season. Often, their yield is cleverly woven into the festivities in the form of lavender-infused lemonade offered to guests on a summer afternoon, or sprigs of rosemary and small pumpkins embellishing a harvest buffet.
Just beyond the gardens lies Jacaranda Meadow, named for the beautiful trees whose vibrant purple clusters appear every June. Vast and versatile, the meadow plays host to lavish receptions, where the wedding cake is often showcased beneath a billowing canopy.
Another splendid reception option is the historic ranch house barn, next door to the house. Banish any thoughts of hay bales or dusty tractors—this barn is not only comfortably well-appointed, it’s exceptionally pretty, too (think Ralph Lauren). A soaring peaked roof with wooden beams holds antique chandeliers garlanded with ivy or springtime blossoms. Wood posts decked with curly willow branches are wrapped in fairy lights, lending the entire scene a softly luxurious patina. For an added visual dimension, the massive door on the barn’s rear wall slides open to reveal a view of Jacaranda Meadow and towering coastal redwoods.
